Should Atheists Speak Out? - Comments From Our Community

What's the point speaking against religion? Should atheists keep their opinions to themselves? See what others think or share your own views.

I truly believe controversy between atheist and theist is a great thing because it allows us to study and learn from different perspectives. As long as the comments are respectful then it is a very useful thing.  The problem comes when people are disrespectful towards each others views.

The problem, I find, is the total blind faith of the religious that are incapable of 'thinking out side the box'. I get annoyed when the religious state all encompassing 'quotes'. They have the assumption that their religion fits all and is for all.

As someone who has spent a fair amount of time over the last thirteen years posting on various religion and atheism on-line forums, I am all in favor of speaking out. I see nothing wrong with talking about gods and religion, even when it offends theists.

I believe that religion is to blame when such ridiculous acts of crime are committed because it's the conviction of the belief system that provokes such things even though there isn't a specific rule in a religion that tells people to commit such acts it certainly does provoke.

I have been in several debates. The first while still attending church. I got into a row of sorts about Paul. HE seemed to me to be a bit harsh in his view of women and seemed a homophobe to me.
