Very Well said me young Padawan. Very Well said, indeed.

If you choose to be a “good person” because it is more beneficial to you, then your good acts are done out of selfishness. This is false virtue.
@AJ777 Re: "If you choose to be a “good person” because it is more beneficial to you, then your good acts are done out of selfishness."
LMAO.... Hey, Mr. Brainiac, you are a true work of art, dude. Granted, something like a four year old's attempt at finger-painting, but a work of art, nonetheless... *chuckle*... *shaking head in amusement*.... Thank you for helping me prove YOUR own point as to how "bad" YOU claim to be. Once again you have shown yourself to be woefully dishonest and sorely lacking in any personal integrity. And THAT is what you consider to be a fine leading example of what a true godly theist should be? Well, good sir, if being a theist means I have to think and act like you do, then I do believe I am much better off where I am right now as a non-believer. Please allow me to explain your feeble attempt at deceit...
In case you didn't notice, you "conveniently" omitted the part where I said, "...(more beneficial to me) AND TO OTHERS." You also seemed to overlook the point I made by saying, "... because it is simply the right thing to do." Take things out of context much, big boy?... *chuckle*... So, since you seem to either be intentionally evasive, or your reading comprehension "skills" are woefully inadequate, let me break it down for you in more simple terms...
Just so you know, I have the means and the abilities to be quite a horribly "bad" person if I chose to do so. And rest assured I could make it very beneficial and profitable for myself. But that would mean I would have to hurt and cheat others for my own personal gain. And (much to your disappointment, I'm sure), I find the thought of doing such things to be highly deplorable. Matter of fact, I made a career out of tracking down and capturing people who did such things as that, as well as defending/protecting the victims of such parasitic monsters. And guess what..... I did not require some imaginary "savior" to tell me I was right. I simply HATE seeing innocent and defenseless people being victimized and bullied by those who believe they are allowed to do anything they want without consequence.
Basically, what it boils down to is this.... Yes, being "good" is more beneficial for me. Just call me a horribly selfish bastard, I suppose.
Oh, well.... *shrugging shoulders*... Like I said, though, my "material life" could be far more "beneficial" if I chose to be "bad". However, I like to go to bed at night and sleep with a clear conscious knowing I did not cheat or harm any innocent people, so I guess I'll just stick with being a selfish good person. Woe is me.... *rolling eyes*... Meanwhile, you just keep relying on your ancient imaginary friend to tell you what you should or shouldn't think/do. Because it is obvious you have no clue how to think for yourself. Toodles... *smooch*...
That was mostly ad hominem. However,
“ I did not require some imaginary "savior" to tell me I was right. I simply HATE seeing innocent and defenseless people being victimized and bullied by those who believe they are allowed to do anything they want without consequence.”
I agree you know the difference between right and wrong because you have a conscience. What I’m talking about is the very idea that there is a right and wrong cannot be supported by atheism. In atheism Stalin, Mao, etc... can do very bad things and face no real or ultimate justice.
AJ777: "That was mostly ad hominem."
Another Religious Absolutist tactic. Again, highlighted...
List of how one can spot a Religious Absolutist:
As Tin-Man said, you are a piece of work. You should be ashamed of continuing to LIE about others.
Another point as to why religion is evil.
“Searching for knowledge and learning is what it means to be human and not a religious robot being force fed only the data they wish you to know. There is no shame in being self-taught, to search for learning and knowledge. The only shame is not searching in the first place.” — Arakish
Religion teaches that it knows everything, thus teaches you are wrong to go searching for any other knowledge. They want you to be a drone like a Borg and told only what they wish you to know. That is evil.
@ Tin-Man
Sorry dude. I know you can defend yourself, but I just could let that LIE go. Damn!, I just hate liars. And when a Religious Absolutist lies, it is even worse. I think AJ77 needs to go back to First Grade, actually listen this time around, and quit skipping so many classes to go smoke that weed. Damn liars. O! how I despise them with a loathsome passion.

AJ777: "In atheism Stalin, Mao, etc... can do very bad things and face no real or ultimate justice."
And you really need to do some research. Yes, Stalin and Mao were atheists. However, they also set themselves as being divine. They wanted to wipe out all others who would refuse to accept them as a godhead.
Your are so dense that a neutron star is looking like a marshmallow in comparison. I may be a volcanologist by trade, but I have done an extremely huge amount of research into many, many, many, many other fields of knowledge.
Hell, even JNV3 is starting to look to be your equal.

Doesn’t address the point I was making followed by an ad hominem attack followed by an appeal to authority followed by another ad hominem attack.
More typical Religious Absolutist tactics. Arguments are made that you cannot refute, thus you claim they are fallacies. The only fallacy is that you cannot provide any OBJECTIVE HARD EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE for your beliefs and that your Sky Faerie exists.
Your main fallacy is that you MUST provide OBJECTIVE HARD EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE that your Sky Faerie even exists before you can make any other presupposed assumptions.

AJ777,
"In atheism Stalin, Mao, etc... can do very bad things and face no real or ultimate justice."
In reality nuts like Stalin, Mao, etc... seldom do very bad things themselves. It is their willing minions who eagerly do all of the killing. All that is necessary is for just one person to have the guts to kill the leader and his whole system might collapse. But no one has the guts to do it. When Moses came down the mountain and got his Levite henchmen to kill 3,000 people they did it for their own selfish reasons. And when it was all over none of the survivors had the guts to ambush Moses and put an arrow through his heart. That is why evil exists.
When the Jesus character returns his objective is to kill all life and destroy the planet. Guess who is going to try to stop him? Satan! So Satan puts his existence on the line trying to save humanity from the evil entity even though he will end up in the lake of fire. So if Jesus returned today would you eagerly help him kill all life or would you try to help Satan fight him to save humanity?
When Abraham was faced with such a choice he sold his soul for personal fame and fortune. He was eager to kill his son to get it.
@AJ777 Re: "That was mostly ad hominem. However,..."
ROFLMAO.... *wiping tears of laughter from eyes*.... *catching breath*.... Ooooh, golly gee! One thing for certain, you are definitely good for a rolling belly-laugh or two. And they consider ME the comic relief around here??? Lawdy, lawdy, dude! You've got me beat in spades!... *chuckle*... Sad part, however, is that when I am being goofy and humorous it is on purpose. You, on the other hand, are actually trying to be serious. Such a pity you cannot see how ridiculous you sound. Oh, and it's too bad you felt I was being "insulting" toward you, because I was actually being nice and gentle. Truth is, I have absolutely no need nor desire to be mean and nasty toward you, because the fact is you are doing a very fine job on your own in making yourself look foolish. If anything, I am actually trying to HELP you by pointing out this fact in the hope you will realize your absurdity and possibly make an attempt to rectify your behavior. (You are welcome, by the way... *grin*)
Now, I am fully aware you are simply going to take zero heed of anything I might say. And that's all good and well. No skin off my nose one way or the other. Thankfully, though, I do not take all this time on my replies strictly for your benefit. You see, I am aware there may be countless numbers of theist members who read these threads but never get actively involved in the discussions. As such, my behavior and the things I say on this site could potentially have good or bad effects/influence over people without my ever knowing it. This fact was pointed out to me by a very intelligent and well-respected atheist member many months ago, and her words of wisdom had a most positive impact on me during a time when I was very angry and subject to lashing out at folks in a most uncivil manner. Therefore, I do my best to choose my words carefully nowadays so as to project a positive image of atheists when dishonest theists like you grace us with your presence.
All that being said, I humbly advise you to consider your words and behavior a wee bit more carefully. Why?.... Because when I was still trapped in the religion world, I was always taught one should behave in such a way as to LEAD lost souls into the folds of Christianity. People should look at you and think, "Yes. I want to be a believer like HIM." And then there are those who profess to be "good Christians", yet display actions and say things that actually REPELL people away from your beliefs. From what I was taught, those individuals are actually WORSE than any non-believer. So, if anything, we wicked and evil atheists actually should be thanking you, because your behavior on here just helps to illustrate and punctuate how toxic religion truly is. Yep, you pretty much do our work for us. How sweet of you!.... *big grin*....
@AJ777
"In atheism Stalin, Mao, etc... can do very bad things and face no real or ultimate justice."
But Hitler is enjoying a Piña colada in heaven right now.
Moral advice? Really? from a man who doesn't know why it's wrong to torture children.
False virtue is pretending your have morals when you're just blindly following bronze age superstitions, and hypocritically cherry picking which bigotries to carry forward, then pretending this isn't a subjective choice.
"If you choose to be a “good person” because it is more beneficial to you, then your good acts are done out of selfishness. This is false virtue."
Who gives a toss. All the hand ringing and navel gazing in the world won't make up for someone being an odious cunt. You theists are always trying to equate the wheel with Orwellian bilge.
AJ777
This reads more like Tin Man taking the piss than a serious comment... "Christianity best answers" that's hilarious, a baseless assertion with no evidence whatsoever. Followed quickly by "It is supported by logic, history, and direct evidence." another selection of fantastical, baseless assertions.
As a famous acerbic and pithy demolisher of arrogance by theists once wrote "utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter,

Yep. We have another one who redefines this mathematical statement in everything they have posted:

AJ777,
"You and I are bad people in need of a savior. Unless I’m willing to humble myself I will continue to act as if I am my own god."
When Jesus returns he will kill all people and destroy the world. Will you help him do it like Rahab the hooker helped the invaders kill her townspeople?
BTW, she was one of Jesus' ancestors.
AJ777,
"You and I are bad people in need of a savior."
Are you sure?
Galatians 2:15 (CEB) = "We are born Jews—we’re not Gentile sinners."
Mark 2:17 (CEB) = "When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor, but sick people do. I didn’t come to call righteous people, but sinners.”"
1 John 1:8-10 ESV
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
@ AJ777 Re: "Righteousness"
I live in an area where my brother's son cannot go out and play in the backyard unless I am also out there with him. Why? Packs of coyotes, wolf packs, and bears do actually come into threatening distances of even me alone in the backyard. I carry my Desert Eagle filled with blanks and one in the pipe.
Am I being unrighteous in firing my gun to terrorize those animals to keep them away?

So .... is Hitler enjoying heaven?
David Killens,
"So .... is Hitler enjoying heaven?"
Since Hitler was a nice Catholic he had this passage on his desk =
Luke 21:10-19 (CEV) for ease of reading instead of German =
"10 Nations will go to war against one another, and kingdoms will attack each other. 11 There will be great earthquakes, and in many places people will starve to death and suffer terrible diseases. All sorts of frightening things will be seen in the sky.
12 Before all this happens, you will be arrested and punished. You will be tried in your meeting places and put in jail. Because of me you will be placed on trial before kings and governors. 13 But this will be your chance to tell about your faith.
14 Don’t worry about what you will say to defend yourselves. 15 I will give you the wisdom to know what to say. None of your enemies will be able to oppose you or to say that you are wrong. 16 You will be betrayed by your own parents, brothers, family, and friends. Some of you will even be killed. 17 Because of me, you will be hated by everyone. 18 But don’t worry! 19 You will be saved by being faithful to me."
Can you really not see how moronically stupid it is to quote the bible at people you know don't believe it is true? Or the rank hypocrisy of such quotes, when you refuse to acknowledge any criticism of it because we don't believe it?
If you're not trolling then this is a new level of stupidity.
Sin is a vapid woo woo superstition, and the idea babies are born cursed with this nonsense is morally repugnant. Again what you need champ is a pulpit, and some sheeple to preach to, the atheists here don't care for that arrogant BS.
AJ777,
The John guy changed his mind =
1 John 3:9 (CSB) = "Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because his seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God."
"1 John 1:8-10 ESV
If we say we have no sin"
You can't have what doesn't exist.
No one here say we are perfect, but no one here, apart from YOU, belive our finite failings as we breath warrant infinite time of agony.
@AJ777
"Christianity best answers the questions of life’s origin, meaning, morality, and destiny. It is supported by logic, history, and direct evidence."
If christianity was allowed to run free, we would still believe in an earth with four corners. The only answer christianity supplies to any question is "god did it".
Which for the record, is a huge lie.
