El Salvador - A nation where abortion is illegal has become a living hell for innocent women serving life sentences for miscarriages.

Apparently, it's most often young and/or poor women that are convicted of homicide when they have had a miscarriage.

"In 2013 the Ministry of Health reported that almost a third of pregnancies in El Salvador are among adolescents, the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Latin America."

"In Teodora del Carmen Vásquez’s case, she lost consciousness the moment she gave birth unexpectedly in the bathroom of her workplace. “I don’t know if my baby was alive when it was born,” she said."
"Vásquez’s prosecutor sought a jail sentence of 75 years, the maximum at the time. Sentenced to 30 years, she has served almost eight."

Religion's contribution to 2015, an image collage with captions (by Dargo200).
*** WARNING: Some of the images are gruesome http://imgur.com/a/kIGw5 ***

There are six images in a row, each containing multiple captioned images covering 2 month periods, each of the six images can be zoomed. Links to some 600 articles that are the sources for the image collage: https://www.reddit.com/r/harmdestroysthegood/new/

If you DON'T think religion is a problem, please take the time to look at all the pictures and read their captions (if you have the stomach for looking at photos from war zones).

One of my "favorite" images to show the horrifying, complete heartlessness and complete disconnect that religion allows people to have:

"A lawyer representing 231 people has alleged that his clients faced abuse by adults working with the Domspatzen, a Catholic choir in Bavaria."

"I have here 231 reports of physical abuse.", "These ranged from beatings to food deprivation, sexual assault and rape"

"The Domspatzen is a 1,000-year-old choir in Bavaria's Regensburg. It was first shaken by the massive sexual abuse scandal in 2010 , when former pupils alleged abuse by adults in the Catholic Church. The choir was run by Pope Benedict's elder brother, Georg Ratzinger"

"Weber told reporters that the events were "internally known and criticized, but they had almost no consequences." Most of the cases can no longer be pursued in court, because they happened too long ago."

"The diocese had previously offered to pay victims 2,500 euros each ($2,730 at today's exchange) in damages."

I used to think it was fine

I used to think it was fine for an atheist to not be an antitheist. I've changed my mind.

I've seen what happens to children's thinking and self-esteem when they are taught about hell and magical nonsense.

My mother's priest told me that children's brains are like mashed potatoes and religion needs to be mixed in so the kids grow up to be obedient Catholics. He also called my niece a devil baby because she wasn't baptized. (She is now.)

I'm sure most of you on this thread have your own horror stories.

We must fight against religion. It is our moral imperative as atheists.

Saudi Arabia's highest religious cleric has declared chess “haram”, meaning it is forbidden for Muslims, while claiming the game shows “enmity and hatred”.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin-Abdullah al-Sheikh, the Grand Mufti, made the proclamation while taking questions during his weekly television show.

“The game of chess is a waste of time and an opportunity to squander money. It causes enmity and hatred between people,” he said.

Sleeping in squalid conditions, queuing for hours on end for food and struggling to care for a newborn baby are just some of the horrifying challenges girls in Iran's grim prison's face.

Dozens of juvenile offenders - some of whom are just nine years old - are languishing on death row for crimes such as murder, drug trafficking and armed robbery.

In Iran, the second-biggest user of capital punishment in the world, young women can be hanged for crimes, following unfair trials, including those based on forced confessions extracted through torture and other ill-treatment.

The frightened girls are imprisoned in a Juvenile Delinquents Correction Centre after their sentence verdict and a large number of the inmates are then killed when they reach 18.

Last year there was a disturbing escalation in the use of the death penalty in Iran, with at least 830 people executed between 1 January and 1 November 2015. There were reports that at least four of these were juvenile offenders.

It is logically impossible to

It is logically impossible to prove that a deity created existence, that the universe is divine, or that humans possess divinity inside themselves, because the very concept commits several fallacies.

First fallacy—Empirical incompatibility: if a divine entity created existence, then it preexisted in a primordial location. No physical scientific instrument can measure primordialism. Thus, a divine entity are primordialism are impossible to measure or verify. It requires pure faith, which is belief without evidence.
Second Fallacy – Infinite regression - If a deity created the universe, than who created the deity? The question descends into an infinite regression.
Third Fallacy – Causal Contradiction – If a divine entity exists then it cannot subsequently creat existence because existence already exists.

If the hypothetical divine entity commands a sacred morality, then it is not a moral, it is a law. And anyone who violates it, suffers punishment. Thus, divine law is a form of coercion, or tyranny, not a voluntary ethic. In the incisive words of late atheist Christopher Hitchens, "Since it is obviously inconceivable that all religions can be right, the most reasonable conclusion is that they are all wrong."
