What do you expect?

What do you expect?
If they told the bishops to report clerical child abuse there would be no catholic church anymore.

Especially since child molestation was the pastime of the elite cardinals and bishops from the very start of the Catholic church.

It is only thanks to a secular society that those things came to the light since before no one would have dared to oppose the church even if they knew what was going on.

This is one of the effects

This is one of the effects that the Christian right and especially Creationism will have, that a lot of people don't seem to understand:

"Tech company to leave Georgia after religious freedom bill passed"

They are leaving because of discriminatory laws. Add to this the long term effects of undermining education...
What do you think the end result of that will be?

What a friggin surprise...

What a surprise... now that gravitational waves have been measured, the faith junkies try to distort it as "Proof of God" from a "scientific point of view".

Fokks News interviews Jeff Zweerink from Reasons to Believe, a progressive creationist ministry.
http://video.foxnews.com/v/4775389920001/god-and-gravitational-waves/

I love the pause he does when she asks "But isn't it also true that there is no empirical proof for God's existence?".
Then he goes "Well yes and no...", then continues on a bullshit rant and finishes with "...choosing to believe what the evidence points to... ...the most logical outcome of that is to believe that's true and to put our faith in that evidence".

Such dishonesty, on so many levels. People like this makes me feel nauseous.

Unicef: "NEW YORK, 7 March

Unicef: "NEW YORK, 7 March 2013 – Between 2011 and 2020, more than 140 million girls will become child brides, according to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
If current levels of child marriages hold, 14.2 million girls annually or 39,000 daily will marry too young.
Furthermore, of the 140 million girls who will marry before the age of 18, 50 million will be under the age of 15.
Despite the physical damage and the persistent discrimination to young girls, little progress has been made toward ending the practice of child marriage. In fact, the problem threatens to increase with the expanding youth population in the developing world."

From 2011 in Yemen:
"Al-Zindani has strong views on the exclusion of women from senior governmental positions, and other issues pertaining to women, including child marriage. His argument against a law banning child marriage is that it is un-Islamic and a threat to the culture and society of Yemen."

"Women requiring emergency obstetric care may be denied admission to the hospital if they lack the authorization of their male guardians, most often their husbands."

"Marital rape may result in unintended and unwanted pregnancy, sexually-transmitted infections, injuries, and even death. In March 2010, Elham Mahdi Al-Assi, aged 12, died of internal bleeding three days after she was married."

Isn't it time to shut down

Isn't it time to shut down the the Vatican?

"One of Pope Francis' top advisers acknowledged that the Catholic Church "has made enormous mistakes" in allowing thousands of children to be raped and molested by priests over centuries as he testified at an extraordinary public hearing of an Australian investigative commission just a few blocks from the Vatican."

"Australian Cardinal George Pell testified via videolink for four hours from Sunday night to early Monday morning from a Rome hotel to the Royal Commission sitting in Sydney. In the front row of the conference room were two dozen Australian abuse survivors and their companions, who had traveled across the globe to witness Pell's testimony, a significant show of accountability in the church's long-running abuse saga."

"Pell asserted at the start: "I'm not here to defend the indefensible. The church has made enormous mistakes and is working to remedy those." He said the church had "mucked things up and let people down" and for too long had dismissed credible abuse allegations "in absolutely scandalous circumstances."

Greeting. I'm new here. First

Greeting. I'm new here. First of all, I apologize for bad English below :) I'm still learning.

This topic intrigued me.

I come from a small country, where religion determinant of social status. Where they aren't in the end? But here, in a small group there are three religions, which are in constant conflict, at least not directly, but in the style of the Cold War.
But there was the direct confrontation too. There was a war, which I fortunately survived. Some thought that because of the territory, the degradation of a people. But no, the essence was that, they fought for religion. Whose God is greater. The war had ended, but the indoctrination continued.

To summarize. I was a child, growing up in a Muslim family. And the war was fought between Muslims, Orthodox and Catholics. So, from an early age I was force-fed information that Muslims threatened that the infidels hated us because we are Muslims. They taught me that I hate them because they aren't Muslims. You know that cliché of mutual 'love'.

After the war, indoctrination is continued in a more aggressive form. People came from the East, Arab countries. Wahhabis. They invited people to faith intimidation to hell, literally saying that they will burn if they didn't accept the faith, or get away from the same. That all infidels should be isolated, don't mix with them, to kill them if they attempt to hurt, insult your religion. And more. But dearest to them were new generations. Easier to handle, implemented by their concept of seeing things. The notion of religion and God.

Lucky for me, I have always been a skeptic. True, I was in the faith, but as if I didn't, because I always ask too many questions, which is all around me annoyed. I've always loved astronomy, paleontology, biology, science, art, music and beers :D. I have long been associated with this shit about religion, because of social acceptance, family. But it's never too late. I started to realize more and more that I began to feel like a victim of indoctrination. I realized that I may, and I have a right to believe what I believe. That is not to believe. I began to feel freedom. Feel the power of knowledge. I extended the horizons by reading books about it. Talking with people. I met a girl who was an atheist. I have had discussions with her, even as a believer then. I continued to lead the discussion with a believers. I've read the Koran, the Bible, books about atheism, science, evolution. About everything. I simply picked up and turned everything into consideration. Although I was in the depths of yourself know that it's just the rest of this indoctrination. But as a skeptic, I love to feed the information to make better understand the matter. I have to accept yourself and openly say what I think and what I believe. But I'm not abandoned religion because of people. I am simply investigating the idea of God, and the more I explored, I understood less and less the point of God, more precisely, the more I realize that he is less real. So today I'm proud that I'm not allowed to be eaten by indoctrination. And religion.

So I well understand what it means to this indoctrination. When I first told people that I feel like someone who doesn't believe in God, what qualifies me as an atheist, they didn't believe me from the beginning. But over time, some have become strangers to me. Some hated me. But my family is always with me.

I hope I wasn't boring :D

/cheers
