Deborah Leonard admitted taking part in the all-night beatings at the Word of Life Christian church in New Hartford, New York. Her plea agreement could require her to testify against her husband, daughter and six other church members and leaders charged in connection with the death of 19-year-old Lucas Leonard and assault on 17-year-old Christopher Leonard.

In Oneida County court, the mother described striking both her sons in the chest with an extension cord during a session led by pastor Tiffanie Irwin, who she said was viewed as a prophet. Lucas Leonard had indicated he wanted to leave the church, she said.

I am just am stunned that religion even survives in a supposedly "advanced" society. You look at the Pentateuch and one of the first things the SUPREME BEING did was to tell the Israelites to wipe out the Amelikites (Cananan) "man, woman and child." Sorry, but if this guy was a SUPREME BEING couldn't he have done something to convince the Canaanites that they should worship/believe in him? But no. And every GOD we have experience with only encourages his congregation to kill members of other congregations. It is just too silly. We have been fundamentally human for nearly 150,000 years (ID notwithstanding) yet we cling to blankets like Linus. "Unbelievers" must die. So much for humanity......

Both incidents were in Kentucky though. However, the first incident I mentioned happened AFTER the one mentioned in this story.

A Jehovah's Witness who enjoyed choking young girls for sexual gratification has finally been jailed after the attacks were 'swept under the rug' by his church congregation for more than two decades.
How can the churches keep sweeping stuff like this under the rug? The entire church should be punished for doing that. Fine them 20 million dollars for each time they have cover up shit like this. Perhaps then they will start to care...
