That was exactly my point. I was not arguing that only a black or white child is possible... I was only trying to say that any trait that you acquire is the result of a compete gene inherited through either of your parents. And that it’s not the result of half gene from your father and a half gene from your mother, both combining to form a compromised trait that s half way between the father and mother

@ROYISM: It will not mix

@ROYISM: It will not mix like paint. It will shuffle like cards. The couple may have black babies for a while and then suddenly a white baby. The couples children may have a white baby and then a black baby. They may have a mulatto baby. THE SUBSTANCES DO NOT MIX LIKE PAINT - THEY SHUFFLE LIKE CARDS!!!

Hi cognostic

Hi cognostic

How is a mulatto baby born if the genes don’t mix like paint?

@That is also explained in the excerpt you quoted.
"Nowadays we know Genes are not physically separated like cards, but the principle remains the same. They are shuffled and reshuffled." They are not physically separate, mixing can occur. AKA "A random mutation." Genes change over time.

Where I live there is an expression "you can't see the forest for the trees".

What that means is that a person can focus so intently on fine details they fail to grasp the overall large picture. And this is the impression I am getting from your posts. Not that you are full of shit and intend to ignore stuff. And my prevailing theory is that you have spent too much time taking tiny snippets of quotes relating to evolution in attempting to destroy those specific statements.

My sincere recommendation is that you back off from intensely scrutinizing such things as genetic drift (trees) and focus on the big picture of evolution itself (the forest).

One does not need to understand, in fact one does not even need to know of the finer things like genetic drift to arrive at a general understanding of evolution. Darwin arrived at his theory long before the science and understanding of genetics was around.

@ROYISM: Sorry, not the way

@ROYISM: Sorry, not the way I read your post. It sounded like you thought Dawkins was arguing that a child had to be either black or white. (NOT THE CASE) and not what he intended to say. "And that it’s not the result of half gene from your father and a half gene from your mother, both combining to form a compromised trait that s half way between the father and mother." Which would be correct unless they do some sort of bonding maneuver. That is what Dawkins said. But again, mothers are not all white and fathers are not all black. We carry multiple generations of genes and while they do clump together, they can also separate at any point or time.

Anyway, we are on the same page now... I think.

But to you and to everyone else in this group, I would like to ask, is God really such a thorny issue without a religion. Once the idea of God ceases to influence any of your values or ethics or morality, or any of your other decisions in the real world... then what harm is the belief in a non-personal, unfathomable, abstract concept like God?

For the first 25 years of my life, my answer would of been: "no, people can believe what they want, religion is no big deal."

Now a days, after learning a whole lot more it is changed to: "people can believe what they want, as long as it does not affect others."
This statement is a bit confusing to many folks though. Because I take that statement... LITERALLY.
Teaching/pushing your religion onto your kids. That is affecting others. Passing laws that ban all abortion, if at all religiously based, which in my experience, is most of the time. Is using religion in a way that affects others. Blocking/banning same sex marriages, is another example, (for the times that it is religiously motivated, which again is the norm.)

In short, if the folks that believe in god could actually strictly keep it to themselves, I would have zero problem with it.

That is the point I am attempting to impress ROYISM with.

Beliefs drive actions.

One can not isolate god beliefs from what you do and your opinions.

@ROYISM: "Once the idea of God ceases to influence any of your values or ethics or morality, or any of your other decisions in the real world... then what harm is the belief in a non-personal, unfathomable, abstract concept like God?"

My first response is "Do you give a damn about what is real?"

My second thought is that admitting their is a god implicitly supports the utter and complete stupidity of all religion. By supporting gods you are supporting others who believe in gods.

The first FACT you have to hide from is that there is no evidence at all for your Deist God. None. It is a God of the Gaps assertion that allows you to pretend you know where the universe came from. Why not admit that you just don't know?

Deists are asserting that Carl Sagan's invisible dragon in the garage is real. This is the same thing as talking about a deity whose existence is (essentially by definition) : nonexistent.

In the end, the burden of proof always lies with the theist. What's the ole expression?? Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are a fool than it is to open your mouth and prove it.

God exists! Is an assertion. It requires evidence to be believed.
