"its still nothing but a theory"
i tripped reading this post, hit my head on the floor and gone unconscious for an hour...then i go dumb after
ohhh my fucking allah.
what a brilliant thinking Ramo Mpq.....i'll recommend not to read his post...very dangerous to your head
@Man in search
You seem to be under the misapprehension that a law is above a theory in science. It isn't. Laws and theories are two different things:
" A law isn’t better than a theory, or vice versa. They’re just different, and in the end, all that matters is that they’re used correctly.
A law is used to describe an action under certain circumstances. For example, evolution is a law — the law tells us that it happens but doesn’t describe how or why.
A theory describes how and why something happens. For example, evolution by natural selection is a theory. It provides a host of descriptions for various mechanisms and describes the method by which evolution works.
Another example is Einstein’s famous equation E=mc^2. The equation is a law that describes the action of energy being converted to mass. The theories of special and general relativity, on the other hand, show how and why something with mass is unable to travel at the speed of light."

Whoa, I'm impressed sushisnake, that's exactly right. Laws are descriptive rather than legislative, and theories are explanations rather than suppositions.
@ Man in search o...
*pulls up comfy chair, cat settles in lap* Hoo boy mr "man in search" you are about to be schooled my son. I'm just going to relax and watch that comment of yours blow back at you. "Hey Tin Man, fancy a glass of Aussie Shiraz?." Wish Myk was around....
@Old Man
*plops down on couch. scratches kitty behind the ear* Ahhh... This should be fun. *passing a bag over* Here, I brought some popcorn. Where are the choco bombs?
@ Tm
Here's a choco bomb , ssshhh don't look now that windy geezer has sat down behind us. You know the guy who is so clever he should have two heads?
I'm not sure we will get a show in this theatre as Man Who is having several fires lit up his arse elsewhere. Oh I love a good theist.
@Old Man
Zaphod Beeblebrox is with you guys? So not coming. Can't stand that braggart. Only man I've ever known with his own inbuilt echo chamber.
Admittedly, I too am interested in Nyar's response. Given that he sees laws as anachronisms for theories, and theories as not providing explanations for observations.
That is not what I said you crooked fucker.
/e I said that the term law when applied to Newton's work is an anachronism. Science if full of misnomers; string theory isn't a theory for example.
@ TM
*Wild applause from the audience, hoots cheers and popcorn spilt everywhere* Boy, that Nyar sure can move! *Nudges TM* ths looks like an even better show!
@Old Man
*kitty scurries away after being startled*.... *quickly catching glass of wine bumped by kitty's rapid departure*... *dodging flying popcorn*... *trying to protect choco bombs with free hand*....
Yeah, this should be good! Hey, Q! Where are ya? You're missing the fun!...*brushing popcorn from lap and couch*... Oh, and bring a broom, please!
Hey, Q! Where are ya?
*walking like zombie from hitting my head*
coming mom!...oh i mean T-man...yeah do you want rug too, for the spilled wine? jesus fucking christ t-man this is a mess..(*scratching head*)(stumping left foot)
now you have popcorns on the choco bombs..fix your self..were on a very serious science guru here
this one is like FIG with a little john the bomb wheedle in him...very very similar to all of the theist who proclaims that god can stick his tongue to his elbows.
@Man in search of truth
sorry for the nonsense/off topic comments newbies. we're just like this when we encounter this kind of thread...you're very welcome here..go on..throw your best BS....
if you say we're nonsense, well..like wise my friend.(*winking rapidly)
@Q
Ah, there you are....*startled look*... Geez!!! Dude, that's a helluva lump on your noggin. Heard about that nasty fall. Here...*tosses ice pack and a bottle of aspirin*... This should help.
*scolding tone*... How many times do we have to tell you, young man? No walking and reading silly posts at the same time.... *scooches over*.... Now sit down before you pass out.
"No walking and reading silly posts at the same time...."
imagine if i was driving...hahah...ok..so what is the fuzz about?old man, david, greensnake is in jared too..nyar..sapporo..who else? i wanna see the name of our genius. john "the vivid mind" wheezily. to back them up.
hey...i just noticed, theists don't back-up their own fellow theist? whats wrong?do they cherry pick their fellow theist too?
The evidence is piling up that Breezy has serious reading problems or ( a more distasteful option) is intentionally confusing and misrepresenting what others say.
Exactly, you think Newton's laws are actually theories, and now think string theory isn't a theory. I think you'll find there are a lot less misnomers in science than you think,
Have scientists been able to test string theory yet? If not that would mean that whilst it is internally and mathematically consistent there is no experimental evidence to support it, also can it, oh I don't know, fully explain current particle physics data or fully reproduce the standard model of particle physics?
Sooo...to make string theory an established scientific theory, one would need to determine the specific equations that would allow one to correctly predict both particle physics and gravitational phenomena. Then we could say that a string theory consistent with all current data has been found.
Phew, glad I got that off my chest...
Now since I apparently "don't understand how science works" maybe someone who does (not John) could tell us whether this means string theory is not yet an established scientific theory, yet is still referred to as a theory, so a misnomer really exactly as Nyarlathotep said.
"Exactly, you think Newton's laws are actually theories,"
Aha, now this one is more my speed, as you have simply lied again, and misrepresented what he said.
It is common for atheistic non-scientists, to have such misconceptions concerning what theories are and are not.
As opposed to the expansive and accurate understanding of creationist and theists on scientif8c mayters you mean. You are funny John.
Another unevidenced claim from breezy hits the bin having been detached from it's dishonestly strident author with Hitchens's razor.
Come on John stick to boasting you know better than all scientists everywhere about evolution.
@ Sheldon
"Now since I apparently "don't understand how science works" maybe someone who does (not John) could tell us whether this means string theory is not yet an established scientific theory, yet is still referred to as a theory, so a misnomer really exactly as Nyarlathotep said."
I will be sitting in on a lecture by Dr Jason Steffen this Thursday evening, and should be able to obtain a reply on that question.
Much appreciated, it's too embarrassing that my ignorance shall leave me at the mercy of Breezy's genius, to be mocked and outwitted at every turn. Or something....
I'd appreciate an answer though, and thanks again.
@Sheldon
Unfortunately one hour ago he posted "No stream today due to finals week scheduling issues." So I must wait until next Tuesday.

Any updates?
"String theory" really isn't a theory in the sense that we have no test for it. Simple measurements of gravity gives us its inverse square law. Newton's F=ma (the simplified version) is more of an explanation or a model that explains a great deal and should probably be referred to as a theory. That's my take.
Not what he said actually. Do you do this on purpose John?
Well it's someone for John to talk to anyway.
Where is Myk? I'm sensing I've missed something important?
@ Sheldon
Myk went on one mission too many, shot down in flames by blue on blue. Semper Fi Myk. He is missed.
Oh no....
He shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary him , nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember him....
Re: Myk
*sound of Taps playing in background*...
*rendering salute*...
@Tin Man, Shelly and Old Man
Myk's ok. I caught up with him on another forum. I told him he's missed here.
