Should Elementary school allow "After School Satan Club"?

MOUNT VERNON — A so-called "After School Satan Club" (http://www.goskagit.com/news/group-wants-after-school-satan-club-at-cent...) proposed by the Satanic Temple of Seattle to be held at Centennial Elementary School should be allowed to proceed, an attorney hired to represent the Mount Vernon School District said.

“I think that if the school district denied that application, you would face costly litigation that would be distracting from your mission," said Duncan Fobes of the Seattle-based law firm Patterson, Buchanan, Fobes and Leitch during a Wednesday meeting of the Mount Vernon School Board. "And would ultimately be unsuccessful.”

Hail Satan! Just kidding, no

Hail Satan! Just kidding, no such thing! Yes , they should allow it and all the kids should go. Either that or religious people need to stop trying to Christianize the public schools.

"it cannot prohibit the club

"it cannot prohibit the club from school property unless that curriculum uses hate speech, incites violence or includes pornography."

Well that seems to exclude any Christian group. The bible includes scenes of nudity, rape, torture, genocide, child abuse, war crimes, incest, and saltification.

As a former school board member, I have a lot of sympathy for the school. The controversy isn't of their making, but they'll have to waste a lot of time and effort dealing with frightened relignoramuses. Ultimately the solution is in the hands of parents. If you don't want your children to attend Satanic Temple programs, keep them away. It isn't compulsory.

Do I think they should

Do I think they should prohibit a "Satan Club"? Yes, I do. Just as I would oppose the use of the school to have a Bible Club. I think we're too damn politically correct for our own good. Satanism is just one more religion. Only thing different is the names involved. If it relates to religion, it should not be permitted on public school premises.

Of course they should allow

Of course they should allow it, as long as they allow the Bible Club. And that is the point The Satanic Temple is making by doing this.

Religion has no place in school, other than factual information about the different religions of the world.

@ Prag; yet the satanic

@ Prag; yet the satanic temple is not truly satanic, by your definition? So it is trying to get into a school by being deceptive. Nice move but shows how low people will stoop to make a point

The Satanic Temple is very

The Satanic Temple is very open about the fact that they are secularists and use satire and theatre to promote a humanist philosophy. Any one could access that information especially college educated teachers and politicians. Unless their superstitious fears cloud their reason.

@ Don Logan

Exactly, they are not truly satanic, whatever that actually means. They are secular.

On the contrary, they are using "freedom of religion" that has been twisted around in the US to mean "Christian privilege", against the Christians themselves. Christians have again and again tried to push their way in schools and politics, and The Satanic Temple have used the very same rules (or lack of rules) to show up and present their alternative to Christianity.
The mere mention of "satanic" makes the Bible thumpers run for the hills, so it has been very effective to show how these Christians have been misusing the system or lack of regulations, and how "freedom of religion" is not meant for anyone else then these Christians themselves.

Yup! The Pastafarians are

Yup! The Pastafarians are humorous and have made strides but no one shivers the timbers of the Bible Thumpers like good Old Scratch!
