Recent headline. Pakistan Submits to Hardliners Again: ‘We Shall Die to Protect the Honor of the Prophet. Apparently at least 15 people died when a politician did not swear fidelity to mohammed when he was sworn in. The cleric said: "We are prepared for thousands to die." Truly, religions ruin everything

It is a sad thing when people value a fairytale over their fellow peers

Apparently a clerical error resulted in the omission of the Prophet's name from an electoral oath. That sounds like reasonable grounds for rioting and murder.
I think the real attraction of Islam is that it allows you to shut down the capacity for rational thought and empathy and behave like an unrestrained yahoo. That must be very refreshing. Thinking is such hard work.
What happened in Pakistan with islam does not happen here in the usa. We have the separation of church and state IT reads that the government should not choose one religion over the other there is no state religion here!!!!!!!. Every faith is allowed to worship and practice and the government has to stay out of its affairs.
@FIG
You again? And of course, you got it wrong. What happens here in the good old US of A is that religions get away with interfering with government and are not held accountable!
Here LEARN something:
https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/free_exercise_clause
"IT" doesn't "read" as you said "IT" reads. It says nothing about choosing one religion over another. The Constitutions states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."
Note it doesn't say of "A" religion. It states "religion". Meaning there can be no official religion or act that endorses religion. Wex Law of Cornell University spells it out plain and clear. I'm quite sure it is way over your head!
@Myk
Psssst.... Hey, Myk. Put your glasses on, dumbass. Look at the date on FIG's post. LOL Don't feel too bad, though. I miss the little fucker too sometimes.
devout Christian ......
"What happened in Pakistan with islam does not happen here in the usa"
Really ...??
That's interesting ....
"Massachusetts, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Wyoming, and Pennsylvania have laws that make reference to blasphemy.
Some US states still have blasphemy laws on the books from the founding days.
For example, Chapter 272 of the Massachusetts General Laws — a provision based on a similar colonial era Massachusetts Bay statute enacted in 1697 — states:
Section 36. Whoever willfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously reproaching God, His creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, and may also be bound to good behavior.
The history of Maryland's blasphemy statutes suggests that even into the 1930s, the First Amendment was not recognized as preventing states from passing such laws. An 1879 codification of Maryland statutes prohibited blasphemy:
Art. 72, sec. 189. If any person, by writing or speaking, shall blaspheme or curse God, or shall write or utter any profane words of and concerning our Saviour, Jesus Christ, or of and concerning the Trinity, or any of the persons thereof, he shall, on conviction, be fined not more than one hundred dollars, or imprisoned not more than six months, or both fined and imprisoned as aforesaid, at the discretion of the court.

Egypt mosque horror 'will work against extremists'. More people being killed in the name of islam.

those laws that you cited on not enforced today, I don`t think they may be inactive but still on the books, when do you hear anything about blasphemy now, it never makes the local or national news. You know what I meant when I simply stated that the federal government and state and local government should have no established religion to call its own.I t is the amendment to the constitution. And i think our founding fathers had the right thing in mind when they wrote this.
Hi DT,
I beg to differ, D. Trump said this July:
"We're going to start saying 'Merry Christmas' again."
That is the President of the USA espousing Christianity as a policy
"You go into a department store. When was the last time you saw 'Merry Christmas?' You don't see it anymore," Trump said during a January 2016 speech at Liberty University. "They want to be politically correct. If I'm president, you will see 'Merry Christmas' in department stores, believe me, believe me."
www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2017-07-03/president-donald-t...
Now, I don’t for a second believe that DT worships god, he worships only himself, but he is using the office of the presidency to wrap himself in pseudo-christianity for political ends.
@Devout Christian: "those laws that you cited on not enforced today"
Forgotten laws are tools for tyranny. They may not be enforced now, but they can be in the future. Everyone's guilty of something.
All laws should have a sunset clause that automatically repeals them after a number of years unless deliberate steps are taken to keep them on the books.
@ FIG
Do you even know what the fuck you are talking about? Do you even know which amendment? Do you know which two famous Clauses you are trying to refer to? FIG you should never talk politics, LAW, OR fucking religion. You don't know a fucking thing about any of those subjects! You are one uneducated stupid son of a bitch!
@ Myk
*Grabs shoulder* "Myk, Myk, wake uop, WAKE UP, FIgs dead pal, " *Myk looks unbelieving* " He's a goner mate, CyberLN shot him down a month ago, you're shouting at ghosts pal"
MYYYYK!!! Snap out of it, man! You are yelling at a ghost! C'mon, buddy! Stay with us!
OKAY I got IT!
@Myk
Oh, thank goodness. Phew! Thought we were losing you there for a moment, dumbass.
@ TM
Nah hes not himself...normally it would be "I fucking got it"
I know Billy has gone to his 'reward', so to speak, but I found these instances of states using the blasphemy laws that are still in force.
"Pennsylvania enacted a law against blasphemy in 1977. In the fall of 2007, George Kalman sent the completed forms for incorporating a company to the Pennsylvania Department of State. Kalman wanted to incorporate a movie-production company which he called I Choose Hell Productions, LLC. A week later, Kalman received a notice from the Pennsylvania Department of State which informed him that his forms could not be accepted because a business name “may not contain words that constitute blasphemy, profane cursing or swearing or that profane the Lord’s name.”"
"In 1950, the New York State Board of Regents, pursuant to a New York statute (See McKinney's N. Y. Laws, 1947, Education Law, § 122) that expressly permitted the banning of motion picture films on certain grounds, rescinded Joseph Burstyn’s license to distribute his film entitled "The Miracle" because it was, in their determination, “sacrilegious.”
"The last person to be jailed in the United States for blasphemy was Abner Kneeland in 1838 "

Billy is still wrong and he's been gone for weeks.
Lets not forget our precious currency proudly declaring "In God we trust". Totally doesn't sound like religious favoritism there.
What of the Pledge of Allegiance? "... Under God..." certainly favors the Christian faith.
Seven states still have laws prohibiting atheists from holding political offices.
The president often swears in on a Bible (although not law, it is still popular and favors Christianity. An unfavoring article to swear in would be a book of law, such as Presidents Adams and Pierce.)
It appears to me that there is a significant lack of separation here. However, I am quite glad that this has not escalated to the state the Middle East is in.
@Devout Christian: We have the separation of church and state IT reads that the government should not choose one religion over the other there is no state religion here (USA)!!!!!!!

You people are idiots. Do you understand what that amendment means? Donald Trump can worship and pray all he wants. He is an individual. Obama was a muslim and many times he attended mosques, because it was his right. How stupid are you people? I mean really. It states the government cannot establish a religion. It also states it cannot prevent a single person from praciticing religion. This means anyone can pray to God at work in a government building, or blow kisses to Buddha in a board meeting, or whatever... now the corporation may fire you based on your actions, but the government cannot do anything. They've overstepped their bounds so many times enforcing unconstitutional laws it's ridiculous. Atheists ruin everything and I personally wish they would either dry up and blow away or find solace in sucking on the end of a shotgun. Just my two cents. You can ban me now for speaking the truth, but everyone on this board knows I'm right.
Yes, Barack Obama, the man who wore a gold watch, ate pork, celebrated Christmas, never Salaam-ed, never prayed towards Mecca, never observed any Muslim holidays, and never once was seen even holding a Koran, was somehow a Muslim.
Just to clarify, he DID attend Muslim schooling as a child, alongside Christian teachings at the behest of his parents. But he was not an avowed Muslim, and always behaved as any other moderate Christian.
You didn't speak the truth A. You spoke nonsense lies and hate. Obama isn't a muslim. Your right to practice religion is an INDIVIDUAL ONE NOT A COMMUNAL ONE!
You are right about one thing the government has always overstepped its authority in allowing religions to VIOLATE THE CONSTITUTION!
You don't have the right to pray anytime or anywhere you want!
As a single first post on an old thread, I am going to assume you are a drive by. So I will keep this short.
Anything you had to say, valid or not, lost all credibility with your flat out attack on anyone who identifies themselves as atheist.
"Atheists ruin everything and I personally wish they would either dry up and blow away or find solace in sucking on the end of a shotgun. Just my two cents. You can ban me now for speaking the truth, but everyone on this board knows I'm right."
I most certainly know for myself that I do not think you are right at all. There is a mountain of evidence that says the polar opposite of what you said about atheist overstepping their bounds is true. And it is so obvious too. It is like arguing to a cop you did not see the stop sign while standing right infront of said clearly visible stop sign.
"Atheists ruin everything and I personally wish they would either dry up and blow away or find solace in sucking on the end of a shotgun."
And he felt obliged to come to a forum populated almost exclusively by atheists, what a moronic thing to say, and what a deeply unpleasant chap to joke about others committing suicide just because they don't share his delusional superstitious beliefs. Where's that other moron loudly claiming that religion ensures peace?
@ Atheistsareidiots
"Obama was a muslim and many times he attended mosques, because it was his right"
The second most fucking stupid statement this Easter season. Must be the full moon.
"You can ban me now for speaking the truth, but everyone on this board knows I'm right".
Why ban you?
1. Not much of your post is "true" and you attach no verification.
2. The movies on Free to Air are all repeats this Easter so Carry On Regardless, I need a laugh ( For angophiles that was a bit of a pun)
Religion does not Ruin Anything but Changing religion for your own Satisfactions ruins Everything. Same is happening in Pakistan. In Pakistan religion is more like a business. Religious groups are using religion for their own gains. Holy Prophet (PBUH) said "A true Muslim is the one from whom every other Human stays safe verbally and physically". But in Pakistan you are killing using the name of that prophet(PBUH) whose teachings are filled with peace.
@Believer:
So whenever religion causes misery, strife and conflict it's because people are doing it wrong. Is that right?
But religion has caused these tragedies everywhere and in every era. Religious conflict and abuse aren't the exception. They're the rule.
Isn't it possible the religions themselves contain seeds of evil that inevitably bring out the worst in people?
That's just the logical fallacy No True Scotsman.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman
@ Beleiver
"using the name of that prophet(PBUH) whose teachings are filled with peace."
Coming in here and typing that bit of absolute nonsense is just metaphorically "cruisin' for a bruisin' . Obviously you haven't been reading the Qu'ran.
"Believer" certainly sounds like a true believer. No interest in an inclusive, forward looking humanity. Anything that supports backwardness and applauds superstition is to be admired. Anyone who doesn't agree with him "misinterprets" or "doesn't understand".
Theology is just mythology taken far too seriously.
