All complex living organisms, including human beings, have the instinct to survive as species. There's no need to make up other 'reasons' to live.
If a dog tells you its only reason to live is to worship some dog god, you'd probably think it's crazy.
But if a RatSpit tells you he is worshiping the Overlord, take it seriously. He really is that screwed up.
