Passover--The angel of DEATH

I was born "Jewish. Every Passover "we" celebrate Moses "freeing" the Jews from Slavery from Egypt. God sent plagues upon Egypt in order to "force" the Pharaoh to "Let my people go". God was creative in his administering the plagues. 1st plague-water into blood..2nd plagues-frogs--3rd plague-gnats of lice--4th plague-flies..5th plague-livestock diseased--6th plague-boils--7th plague-thunder and hail--8th plague-locusts--9th plague-darkness-----Nothing God did would force the Pharaoh to allow the Jews to be free from slavery. Finally God got very frustrated and sent the ANGEL OF DEATH TO KILL all Egyptian male first born including BABIES.. That was too much for the pharaoh and finally Moses "marched" the Jews from slavery. The "moral" of the story is the "goodness" of God to free the Jews from slavery... This story is passed on from generation to generation. The ritual is celebrated and besides the Matzo there is plenty of food and family "joy". The youngest male asks the four questions reminding us Jews about the story of Passover.. GOD SENT THE ANGEL OF DEATH TO KILL ALL FIRST BORN EQYPTIAN BABIES. The story of Passover instead of showing Gods mercy--revealed the horror and evil and immorality of GOD. WHY--HOW COME= the youngest male child ask the 5th question... WHY would a just, good, moral, loving God send the ANGEL OF DEATH TO KILL Egyptian babies.

Kenny, I’m providing you this warning: mind your manners this time. You should know by now that I won’t hesitate to boot you out of here if you start with any crap again.

CyberLN---What in my post

CyberLN---What in my post caused you to become so hostile.. It seems no matter how interesting or thought provoking or just pleasant I am-- you carry this grudge that won't go away. I don't get it.. I will be who I am and I will leave it up to you to decide my fate. I am so happy to "see" you again

Kenny has visited this forum

Kenny has visited this forum on and off for a couple of years. He uses a different name each time and eventually gets himself banned every time.

Here's a better question. Why would a follower of Jesus use that same story to terrorize a class of 5-year-olds?

That happened to me 60 years ago at an elementary school in London. Our teacher, Mrs. Rose (I can still remember the bitch's name) was a fanatical fundamentalist Christian sadist sow who enjoyed frightening us with gory stories from the Bible. There were a dozen or so first-born sons in our class. We were all terrified that this angel of death was coming for us. I remember getting in trouble for scrawling a red X on our front door with a crayon because we didn't have any lamb's blood.

Always found it funny that an

Always found it funny that an all-knowing God needs a marker in blood to know which children to kill.

Jared Alesi: "all-knowing God needs a marker in blood"

The markers were to show the ethnicity of each child so the racist god Jehovah could carry out his ethnic cleansing program.

Oh yeah, silly me. Forgot

Oh yeah, silly me. Forgot that it was because God is colorblind, not ignorant. Either way, he still needs assistance to kill people. Our military can shoot a cruise missile through an Iraqi kid's bedroom window from across the world, but God needs help killing children. Fuck's sake, we could've helped him out with that one.

Well, it would appear that

Well, it would appear that neither Yahweh nor the Exodus are actually real. So I guess you really don't need to worry about them any more.

@LosLocke: "neither Yahweh nor the Exodus are actually real."

And the evil teacher is probably dead. But childhood fears run deep and last long. I think that's how the religions entrap people. Catch them young and fill them with terror. Religion is all phobias, really.

The story of Abraham

The story of Abraham preparing Isaac for sacrifice scared me! You would do that to your own son due to a voice in your own head? Sick shit!

Triumph,

Triumph,

The story about Yahweh killing the first born (humans and animals in Egypt) is told to illustrate the 4th Commandment =
Exodus 34:19-20 (CEB) = "19 Every first offspring is mine. That includes all your male livestock, the oldest offspring of cows and sheep. 20 But a donkey’s oldest offspring you may ransom with a sheep. Or if you don’t ransom it, you must break its neck. You should ransom all of your oldest sons. No one should appear before me empty-handed."

The story reinforces the idea that the people had to pay a fee to the priests when they had a first born, either animal or baby. It was just extortion to enrich the Levites. The basic story is repeated several times in the Bible, including the birth of Yeshua.
