This is a short treatise I wrote in the last 30 minutes. Enjoy. Or curse.

Origins of Religions

Of course, the question I have to ask, “If you have studied history, how can not know how all religions originated?” This is something I discovered by the time I was ten years old and learned about the evolution of humans. It dawned on me on how religions did form. How they originated and evolved with us humans.

All religions began way back in the dark times about 2½ million years ago on the plains of what is now eastern Africa. Way back then, it was still kind of Africa, but the climatology was drastically different than it is now. Evidence shows that it was wetter, perhaps more monsoonal, than the climate of today.

Imagine yourself on the ancient plains of eastern Africa. Your brain is about ¼ the size of today’s modern Homo sapiens. Your intelligence is not that much higher than most of the other animals with which you share these plains. You look at the horizon and see this gigantic pillar of black, grey, and white. As you watch, you see a sudden flash of light in the shape of a wickedly twisted streak. Quite a many seconds later, you hear an angry rumble issue forth from this gigantic black, grey, and white pillar of billowing miasmic mass. You feel fear as it grips your heart, causing it beat faster. Your breathing increases as your body causes hyperventilation in order to get extra oxygen in case you need to flee. Adrenaline is released into your bloodstream to prepare for flight if necessary. You cannot help but wonder why the rain must come from such a terrifying and angry monster.

Fast Forward.

It is now only 50,000 years ago. Your brain is now large enough that it enables to control and manipulate a pharynx in order to create complex audible acoustical wave signals. This ability and intelligence has led to the develop of a spoken language. Off in the distance you are watching a gigantic black, grey, and white billowing miasmic monster. It sends jagged and twisted streaks of light which are followed by angry, rumbling growls. You have seen this monster before and have wondered why it produces such huge amounts of rain. As you think and formulate ideas, you feel that this is perhaps not a monster at all. Perhaps it is the result of the anger of an even powerful being than yourself. Perhaps it is combat between two or more such powerful beings. Perhaps it is a battle between the Great Earth Mother and one of her children who dwell in the white sky riders. A battle of the gods.

Fast Forward

You are a humble story teller in your tribe. You are always discomfited seeing the stronger and faster hunters and warriors always getting the more beautiful of the women, leaving the more plain and less eye appealing of the women for the likes of you and others who do not possess the physical attributes. However, you are also the teller of the stories of the gods. You are the holder of the rituals that aid the hunters and the warriors. The rituals that aid in your tribe’s prosperity. The rituals which allow the ancestors to speak to your people. The rituals that allow the gods to tell your tribe what they should do and they should not do.

You begin teaching your son of the rituals. As your son matures and grows into the spirit guide of your tribe, he also is discomfited at how the stronger, larger, faster hunter-warriors also always get the more beautiful of the women. Discomfiture becomes anger, anger becomes hatred, hatred becomes megalomania.

Fast Forward

Now we come to the time when superstitions become religion. And religion, since it is a way to hold power over people, attracts those who have enough intelligence to realize how their megalomaniacal tendencies can be used to control the masses through totalitarian tyranny. They saw the perfect opportunity in which to make people in the tribe to do all the work for them, supplying them with “best of the best,” “the cream of the crop,” by saying it is “a sacrifice to the almighty sky faerie so that our tribe may prosper.”
These megalomaniacs came up with rituals and ceremonies to help hide their megalomania. They rewrote scripts to make it appear to be the “holy word of god.” They rewrote scripts to make the masses support these “religious” maniacs with the best of the best through “sacrifices” given to god. These maniacs figured out a way that they could amass huge fortunes without doing any true real work, making the masses simply hand over the best they had sweated and toiled to create as “sacrifices demanded by the Lord God so they may continue to prosper.”

And when disaster strikes, that just means the Lord God is angry because some have sinned. All the persons will think it had to be someone else not even realizing none have actually sinned. The disaster is just a disaster. Such happens when living on a violently geomorphic rock like the Earth. However, the masses are not intelligent enough to know this because they are too busy trying to please a faerie tale. They are not even intelligent enough to realize it is all a lie because they have see too many “miracles” perform their great and mighty Lord God. Does the tribe blame that lazy asshole megalomaniacal psychotic sociopath? No. He convinces them it is due to their sin. What a crock of shit...

Then as time progressed and religion evolved (yes evolved), it became what we now know as the Torah, Talmud, Bible, Qu'ran, Bhagavad Gita, etc., etc., etc., etc. Thus, as the legends and myths continued to be passed down by “word of mouth” (ever hear of the “Chinese whispers” game?), they continued to grow larger and larger than life until they became written down and “inspired” by the “holy ghasts” as the “word of the all-powerful sky faerie.”

And that boys and girls is how our ancient ancestors believed in the imaginative sky faeries those many, many hundreds of years ago before the Great Age of Enlightenment occurred.
