Yes there are laws in place for anybody including doctors, teachers, public servants (includes police and social workers) to report suspected child abuse of any nature. Each State has its own legislation and varies.
The only exemptions were to priests and some other religious people when given under the seal of confession. The JWs also bever reported child abuse unless it was witnessed by at least 3 adult parties...so in practice it never got reported.
We are currently fighting to end the religious exemptions and enact FEDERAL legislation to force EVERYONE to report actual or suspected child abuse immediately.
