The discovery of late-Roman era mortar under a slab of marble at the site which some believe to be the burial place of Jesus Christ backs up contemporary accounts of the tomb's discovery, scientists say.

I don't think Jesus Christ was an actual character. And also about the tomb issue in the Bible there are many discrepancies. I talked about it in this thread: www.atheistrepublic.com/forums/debate-room/help-resurrection-lord-jesus-...
I heard of evidence of a historical Jesus. Which does make sense. Every legend has an element of truth to it.
@Xeno ...
I just found this also.....
"Heretical text of secret teachings of Jesus lost for 1,500 years discovered at Oxford University
Manuscript written more than 1,500 years ago had been thought to only survive in translations"
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/archaeology/jesus-secret-teach...
It seems its like buses ...... you wait for hours for your bus....then two come along together....
The mortar dates from Constantine's time. That just confirms that Helena conveniently found this site and declared it to be the grave of Jesus some three centuries after the alleged events.
Speculation. Did you even read the artcle?
@JoC" "Did you even read the artcle?"
Yes. Did you? The article says the scientists analyzed the mortar and dated it to 335-345 AD. Tell me again when your Jesus character was supposed to have died? Was he supposed to have been in the tomb for three days or three centuries?
The entire story of Helena's discoveries in Jerusalem sounds like pure propaganda. She found not only the tomb but also three crosses. As if that weren't enough, she also found Moses' burning bush in Egypt. Do you really believe this stuff?
Because surely they wouldn't desecrate such a holy place by destroying any evidence that it was what they said it was. Surely if it was such a magnanimous site it would be preserved in original condition. Some soldier or Julius Doe? Nah, fuck em, we can put a giant slab here. Those idiots will never know the difference.
I agree with Algebe. The rock dates from the 300s, not the first century. I smell a rat. I'm sure that christians will be screaming at the top of their collective lungs that this is proof and yet it really isn't now is it?
It's too bad Yeshua isn't still wiggling on the cross. The saying is that a thousand years is just like a day to him so surely he could have hung around for 2 days?
1. Notice that the only person cited in the article is a "Chemical Engineer"
2. No "scientists" have said anything. Nothing has been tested and nothing has been actually found.
3. slab in the tomb dates back to 335-345 AD (Um.... Jesus allegedly died in 33 AD. You don't see a problem here?) "When we opened the tomb and saw this broken grey slab with an engraved cross we didn't know from which era it was," Professor Moropoulou told Reuters."
YOU DO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS ARTICLE SAYS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
4.
Did you know that archaeologists prove Jesus tomb is older than previously thought? An article about Jesus tomb says it is 1700 years older than the time it is accepted by belief...
http://www.ancient-origins.net/news-history-archaeology/tomb-jesus-chris...
This article and the reported discovery merely confirm that the Tomb was designated by Helena (Constantines wife) as jesus's tomb and that we have now dated it to that time of Helena. That is all nothing else. Yes it was 1700 odd years ago. End. Goodnight!
