An Iranian man who claimed to have converted to Christianity sought permission to stay in Australia because he feared persecution if he was sent back to Iran. The pastor at the church he attended told the immigration authorities that his church attendance had fallen off, so now he's being deported.
Perhaps he should have converted to atheism instead.
Immigration officials are the modern Inquisition. I hope the poor fellow survives in Iran.

The sheer inhumanity of the immigration thugs in the UK, US and Australia is breathtaking. In Australia public servants mostly tried to help those who sought refuge or to access the welfare system. Instead we now have black shirted thugs raiding toddlers homes in the pre-dawn, attempts to institute mass identity checks on the streets of our towns by the same black shirted, fully armed thugs, pensioners guilty of no more than a low end drink driving carted off to detention (and subsequent deportation)on Christmas island after a lifetime living in Australia.
Our welfare system is in a shambles with telephones abandoned, staff instructed to obstruct the fair and equitable distribution of welfare where needed, delays at all times and unreasonable demands on the disabled and distraught.
We did have a fair and just attitude, now it seems we have my children overseeing a cruel, almost nazi like structure of oppression and indifference. Roll on the millenials.
New Zealand had a similar immigration culture back in the 70s. They were doing "dawn raids" followed by instant deportation. They even had immigration scumbags peeping in windows to check whether married couples were really married (i.e., having sex) or just using marriage to get through the immigration system.
amazing. did you mean nazi germany or nazi germany?
You know. I followed that link. Read it three times. And to be wholly honest...
I am at a lose for words.

The pastor in this story felt the need to warn the authorities about this guy not attending (the article explains he moved to a different neighborhood) knowing he would most likely be deported. Apparently, that was the "Christian" thing to do... Simply disgusting.
As I read the article cited, I understand that the guy is being deported for making a FALSE DECLARATION of having converted to Christianity. Nobody would be deported for not attending church enough.
Whether or not he ought to be deported is "above my pay grade". I cannot see religion as a good reason to deny someone asylum. The danger of persecution in the country of origin SHOULD be a big consideration. Deciding whether the man would be persecuted or not, back in Iran, is also "above my pay grade" * .
Mutorc.
P.S. * really means that I don't feel qualified, or well enough informed, to properly judge.
As I understand it, church attendance was used as evidence that he was not a genuine convert to Christianity. On that basis, the majority of self-professed Christians in Australia would have to be deported.
How do you prove that you're a Christian (or an atheist) any way? From the comments by the man's legal representatives, it sounds like he was not even given the opportunity.
