@The Pragmatic
Really. Let's you and I have a debate. Do you have an argument you prefer? I'll promise not to be passive aggressive if you promise to keep the ad hominems to a minimum.
@ miracleman12
Thanks, but unfortunately I don't see any productive outcome of debating you. You're advocating "Intelligent Design" by use of inserting a god in the gap that is beyond the current reach of science and even though that has been pointed out to you, you maintain your position. I base my beliefs on supporting evidence, while you base yours on the lack of opposing evidence.
There is not much to continue debating there.
"A wise man proportions his belief to the evidence." - David Hume
And accusing me of Ad Hominem without understaning the definition of it, won't get you my interest to debate you:
Ad Hominem:
- A logical fallacy in which an argument is rebutted by attacking the character.
- Attacking your opponent’s character or personal traits in an attempt to undermine their argument.
I wasn't trying to win an argument by attacking you, I was merly pointing out that you were acting lika a douche.
@The Pragmatic
I see. So you don't think I have any evidence of my positions? You are clearly mistaken.
It is true, my argument from fine tuning is not "God of the Gaps". I've explained why. Must I again. It's an argument from inference which is not "God of the Gaps". You are welcome to present other options and argue for them and/or argue why your option is more probable...
I think the evidence is clearly on my side. I think you are not willing to look at the evidence that I have. (Seems narrow minded to me.)
I am perfectly willing to discuss David Hume. Have you read him. I have. :)
You are clearly directing ad hominems toward me. You call me a douche to disrupt my intellectual credibility. So what? Show that I am intellectually inferior to you by my lack of ability to reason and understand evidence.
You did that to yourself, long ago.
@Nyarlathotep
I guess you are still sulking because even in my unsound intellectual credibility, I've gotten the best of you.... Nice.
@MM12
"What ever works for you in your delusion. It's cool."
My only delusion was trying to engage in a serious discussion with someone like you. Mea culpa. Enjoy your delusion while it lasts.
You call me a pretender, then get upset when I refer to you delusional. Gotcha.
I'm perfectly willing to have a discussion with you. Let's set up an argument just between you and I. Back and forth. Do you have a particular argument you want to discuss. I'm ready.
Thank you to everyone for your comments. Please forgive my delay in thanking you. She has not converted but has read a couple books they've given her. Ultimately, as mentioned in a comment above, I need to avoid the backfire effect and keep my mouth shut. It's gotten to the point where she perceives any comment I make (no matter how logical) as me being an arrogant, know it all, judgmental prick insulting her friends and her intelligence.
I'll have to let her figure it out for herself. My fear is that their marketing/propaganda is very successful. "We encourage you to find the holy spirit yourself, etc. You'll feel it..." Thus, she could "feel it" via a large placebo effect.
Nonetheless, the arguments many of you made above are very strong, and I'll save those for later :) Thanks again!
Looks like your wife is embarking on becoming a lesbian.
Mormons are racist. It is a big part of their doctrine.
