My response to the various comments about the Church being homophobic.
Acts 8:26-40English Standard Version (ESV)
Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch
Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place. And he rose and went. And there was an Ethiopian, a eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure. He had come to Jerusalem to worship and was returning, seated in his chariot, and he was reading the prophet Isaiah, And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him Now the passage of the Scripture that he was reading was this:
“Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter and like a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opens not his mouth. In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken away from the earth.”
And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. As they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
Under Hebrew law, a eunuch would not have been allowed to worship at the temple. He would never have made it past the immersion baths and would have been sent to join the women and children. A eunuch would have been as close to trans-gender as medical science was possible of at the time.
What is God’s order to the Church? Run after him. As soon as the eunuch understands that he has the potential for full participation and welcome into the community he jumps for joy and takes the first chance he gets to be baptized.
The Bible says absolutely nothing about lesbianism. In all primates, it is a survival trait to avoid being beaten up by the inferior males. The inferior males hit. They know the females won’t voluntarily mate with them, so they terrorize them to make them too afraid to refuse. See patriarchal religions on inferiority of women. The Old Testament has about 1 sentence on gay men. Homosexuality didn’t even make the 10 commandments.
So I would say I don’t understand the confusion. The Church’s position on transgender and homosexuality is quite clear and joyfully, fully welcomes them into the Church under direct orders from God.

Homophobic - having or showing an extreme and irrational aversion to homosexuality and homosexual people.
Leviticus 18:22
Leviticus 20:13
Yes, you picked the two sentences +- out of the entire Bible. From being here a short time I agree with the study I heard about that found that atheists know more about religion and the Bible than all the regular church goers. VERY impressed with the knowledge of the group..
I say the New Testament narrative reversed the two Old Testament sentences with a stronger message of inclusion. Humans learn best through narrative. This story would have stuck more than the arcane legalese.
Also the Bible shows progression of religions thought through millennia. I rather agree with the rabbi who said that humanity taught God how to be God and us what it means to be human. I think most people agree that the Bible was written by people.
As also pointed out here, slavery was considered SOP in Biblical times. We seem to be progressing past that.
Now, I am not an MD, but I doubt that anal sex has health benefits. The Bible also contains the best guesses of the time for postive medical practice.
The extreme example would be the recent local protester at the 'pro gay' play at the local university. His sign was, as I remember - Make the World safe for anuses.
My God, man, if that is your greatest concern about the World, you desperately need to see a proctologist.. I'LL PAY!
(The college actors loved the sign I donated with a shorter version of my above post. They didn't have contact info on the protestor)
Well, it is difficult to take your statement seriously when LGBTi people are called "abomination" and advocates, in fact prescribes the death penalty for the being born different.
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17).
Matthew 5:18-19
"For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Luke 16:16
"The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John; since that time the gospel of the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.
"Therefore, the law is indeed holy, and the commandment holy and righteous and good . . . For I delight in the law of God" (Romans 7:12, 22)
"All Scripture (including the Old Testament) is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; So that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16)"
That Church is back tracking on its previous attitude (except in certain protestant churches) is a good thing to happen, but is the very LEAST it can do and should publicly renounce its prejudice and "law". It should as (20% of priests believe se Royal Commision) that sex with a pre pubescent boy does not contravene the vows of celibacy
@Mrs Paul:
Admittedly I just scanned this thread, but something jumped out at me that I had to respond to:
"Now, I am not an MD, but I doubt that anal sex has health benefits."
It has great health benefits. No kids. Do you know how many women died giving childbirth? Probably over the course of human history, well over a billion.
Lots of men like sticking "it" in holes, and doing so is not a very healthy practice in general, but pure health benefit wise, for most of human history, anal sex resulted in a lot fewer deaths then vaginal sex. Especially with the anti gay protesters usually also believing in a god, a god that decided slavery is fine, but withheld, in his infinite wisdom: that washing hands saves lives.
Anti gay protesters at a college campus hosting a pro gay play are the worst. These protesters are stain on humanity that everyone that associates with them should be ashamed that they even know them.
I do not understand the relevance of iron age thinking in relation to modern social problems.
If the Church chooses to treat LGBT individuals with respect, it is meeting the minimum of what is required.
Unfortunately, so many different churches exist because so many different people pick and choose what they want from the bible. And there are multiple versions of the bible.
If one person digs out one statement from the bible stating one point, someone else will pull out the contrary position derived from a different passage.
"And there are multiple versions of the bible."
specially the evangelical church....
sick people...they are now god cause they have created their own bible...
when it comes at cherry-picking?? they're guilty
This is actually a repost from another thread. I still cannot find it, but I know I have seen it in another thread about 4 to 8 weeks ago.
