Okay, here's some groundbreaking news: people are fucking stupid.
Let me qualify this. People are mistaken a lot, about a lot of things. But this doesn't need to be attributed to some unfounded, new age mysticism bullshit. Particles aren't leaking in from other dimensions where Darth Vader actually says, "Luke, I am your father." People are just wrong about things. People were wrong for a century plus about the health implications of tobacco and alcohol. It wasn't the Mandela Effect. So your childhood memories of the Loony Toons actually turned out to be of Looney Tunes. So what? You're just fucking wrong.
To completely discredit this shit-show of an idea, let's look at the facts.
1. The Mandela Effect is not a listed condition in the DSM IV. It has never been demonstrated under controlled conditions, and there are already well accepted explanations for the same phenomena.
2. The creator of the idea has no published scientific papers on it, only $20+ books on Amazon. She also has volumes on UFOs and alien abduction.
3. Nothing in any field of physics or quantum mechanics supports the idea of leakage from one universe to another, and especially not to change historical data or pop culture icons. The multiverse isn't even proven yet, but this is a stretch way beyond that. The proponent doesn't even have education in the field of physics, theoretical or otherwise.

This is the first time I've heard the Mandela Effect described with references to other universes or anything new age.
To me, from what I heard and read (which was very little), it was just a name given to the basic idea behind it. That a lot of people swear by something only to learn it's not true.
For most, that's what it is. But the actual publication that proposed it is absolute nonsense with all the spooky physics bullshit.

Here's a video on the subject, made by Captain Disillusion. He's a tad bit odd, but likeable. I encourage everyone to watch his videos.
I love Captain Disillusion! Been a fan for years.
How about the real Mandela Effect :
Overcome a lifetime of victimization by white supremacists and finally win the prize! Over come your own hatred and welcome your former oppressors a new start in a changed society!
A giant of a human being!
I discovered him recently and absolutely love him. He's gotta be my favorite Latvian-American film maker/effects and CGI specialist ever. I'm also using his outro as my senior quote.
Sooooo..... You mean I cannot blame the Mandela Effect anymore when I forget to put the toilet seat down?.... Dammit, I had just recently gotten my wife convinced. NOW what excuse am I suppose to use?
Tinman: You can always resort to that tried and true scapegoat , the Gremlin!
@Chimp Re: Gremlins
Yeah, tried that already. She called in the exterminator. The guy said he had never seen such a widespread infestation in his whole career. Then the bastard proceeded to wipe them all out. Bummer.
Thankfully , evolution is producing Gremlinicide resistant super Gremlins!
Re: super Gremlins
Are they selling those on Amazon yet, by any chance? Would love to repopulate the house. Or at least a couple of specific rooms, anyway.
No! You have to grow your own, but with a can do attitude and enough moxie, a go getter could corner the market!
HEY!!! I think I have finally found the "Missing Link" between my kind and humans! It's Captain Disillusion! Hooray! Proof of evolution! Finally! Take THAT, Christians!
(Oh, wait..... You mean we already KNOW evolution is for real?... Oh. Uh, okay.... Well. Alrighty then. Carry on...)
He does describe himself as a chrome person in one of his videos. I think it was when he talked about the Method Robot.
There's no reason why the Mandela Effect should be in the DSM. It's not a clinical problem. I also wouldn't say its entirely wrong. The idea that there is another dimension in which these memories are true, is probably wrong. But memory works similarly across people, the way we encode and retrieve information is the same, so, these type of false memories aren't wrong.
That was the main point of the video, if you didn't watch it. When instead of going by the most logical answer of similarities in how we remember things incorrectly, you assume - for no legitimate reason - that it's because of parallel universe transcendence, we have a problem.
But the reason the DSM is mentioned is because the Mandela Effect is purportedly a psychological phenomena caused by multidimensional happenings. But most people who aren't batshit crazy just think it's when everyone gets the same thing wrong in a similar way. Which, that understanding is not necessarily harmful, as that does happen. But when those same people that heard of the Mandela Effect from Buzzfeed start referring to it like a legitimate thing, they're inadvertently supporting a crackpot whacko who makes money off of ignorance and credulous people who don't do research.
Right, but that's not what the DSM is for. You won't find the priming effect in there, or almost any other psychological phenomena that isn't clinically important.
Ah. Forgive my ignorance then. I'm not a psychiatrist, and my education on the subject is limited. It seemed to be of some minor importance in the video, but not necessarily in independent research of my own, so it's really just bad reporting on my part. Maybe Fox will give me a job in their newsroom.
