To think that the ruler of the universe will run to my assistance and bend the laws of nature for me is the height of arrogance. That implies that everyone else (such as the opposing football team, driver, student, parent) is de-selected, unfavored by God, and that i am special, above it all.

I agree wholeheartedly. As a matter of fact, if there were a god, then I would certainly *hope* that he had better things to do than worry about who was winning the SuperBowl this year or how any given highschool student did on their exams.
Most people don't understand the effects of our actions well enough to expect any reasonable god-like being to honor our requests.
This to me highlights the case of the theist believing that they believe in their god and as such believers in their god they are better than everyone else. The nerve of a theist asking their god for help with finances, or to win the lottery. Who has to loose money for a theist to gain it? Who has to die for your child to get that heart transplant?
This is such a simple way of seeing it but so true at the same time It does work that way actually and people havent realized that it makes no sense at all that sides would be taken like that.
Wow! That is a very powerful quote and one that can be used in many walks of life. I am posting that on my Facebook page, maybe it will prevent the religious people from posting as much of their beliefs as they do.
This is such a good and hard reality check slap in the face quote for believers. brilliant stuff!
This is no slap in the face for me
I think this is my favorite quote by far, not just here in the site either. I am talking all time favorite!
This quote is an interesting way to look at things. You hear all of the time people praying for this or that, what makes them so special over everyone else?
