If it makes you feel any better, I think that "fudge" is kind of fudgy without the chocolate!
My maternal grandfather used the word bugger liberally in his speech. For instance, when my dad asked grandfather if he could marry my mom, he replied,
"Buggered if I know, better go ask her mom." Consequently it is no surprise that bugger was the first word that my Uncle Eric learned.
Mom frequently told the tale of them all sitting down at Sunday lunch and over in his high chair, Eric was crooning, "Boo-gar, boo-gar."
