The Battle of the Beards

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-07-05/baptists-confront-islamic-leader-a...

Mosque mobbed by bearded Baptist bigots from Brisbane

The ringleader is Logan Robertson, a radical preacher from New Zealand. He's called for the execution of all homosexuals and told New Zealand's prime minister (who recently gave birth) to get back into the kitchen where she belongs.

I didn't think there was anything that could make Islam look reasonable by comparison, but you live and learn.

Ha you serious, there was no battle or even a raised voice, no physical contact, no aggression or even touching. I have seen old ladies more aggressive at bingo nights lmao. that is the most low energy confrontation ever recorded on video. A plump guy in a suit asking questions and you are trying to make it look like some violent hate crime. Get a grip man your outrage is laughable.

This is the country that police have intercepted multiple plots of extreme terror by Muslims against civilians... thankfully police arrested them before they could act. You have the audacity to claim this impotent chat is worse.

But yah the guy sounds like a dick for sure.

Hey, grow a sense of humor.

Hey, grow a sense of humor. Where did I mention violence or express outrage?

The baptist bigot is obviously a wanker. The media here played it up as a major incident and put it in the evening news, which was probably what fungus-face wanted.

He certainly seemed out to

He certainly seemed out to just be offensive, not to win many friends. Otherwise, if he didn't see it coming, he must be as thick as two short planks of shoring timber.

I'd call the guy a bigot, 'cause he almost certainly hasn't looked in to the bad sides of his own religion. As a baptist type a là Westboro, he is of the arrogant variety, where most people are wrong, and he and his ilk are 100% right.

Before gracing Australia with his presence, the bearded blockhead was associated with the WestCity Baptist Church in Auckland. Coincidence?

I believe he was being ironic

I believe he was being ironic with the word battle and the post in general. I sensed no real outrage. Though you telling someone off for hyperbole is far more ironic.

Oh I thought you were posting it as a violent crime. That dude is a wanna be Westboro Baptist Style attention Hoare but he lacks the energy.

Your last comment was a bit out there tho that this non event makes Islam look reasonable....hint the comparison is as insensitive as it is objectively wrong.

@Terminal Dogma

Violent crimes against mosques in Australia usually involve pieces of pigs being hurled from a distance in the dark. These wankers talk a good fight, but if someone says boo to them they dissolve into jelly.

Oh yes, I know the New

Oh yes, I know the New Testament passage from which the motivation for this came from:
Joh 5:21
"And Jesus said, 'hear thee, hear thee. Hath a musulman cometh to thine land, be thee an ass.'"
It's legit. Don't check it out.

Update. The hairy crusader and his friends have been charged with trespass and other offenses.

For Australian citizens that would result in a modest fine or suspended sentence, but the ringleader is a New Zealand national. Australia has a one-strike-and-you're-out-policy for foreign nationals who commit crimes, even if they've lived all their lives in Australia. You serve your sentence, and then they put you on a plane. It's called the "character test." It's a nasty policy that often has tragic consequences.

That's an over the top

That's an over the top response conviction and possible deportation for standing outside a mosque quietly asking questions.

I think that's a violation of his rights and affront to free speech and right to assemble.

Can't condone that even if the guy is an idiot. Same thing could happen to someone asking a priest questions at church. Seems on overreach to not look Islamophobic. These things usually backfire.

@Terminal Dogma: That's an over the top response conviction and possible deportation

Yeah. I can understand if someone gets off a plane and few weeks later robs a bank or thumps a cop. By all means run him out of town on a rail. But if someone's been in Australia for years and has family there, it's a double punishment for a single crime. Also, if a foreign national has grown up in Australia, maybe Australia needs to accept some responsibility for their character formation in Australian society.

Australia and New Zealand have a special relationship. Citizens of one country could traditionally live and work in the other without restrictions. As a result, many of the 600,000 New Zealanders in Australia have never formalized their citizenship. A few years ago Australia changed the rules, excluding New Zealand nationals from most welfare benefits (but not taxation!). Unfortunately the naturalization procedures are difficult, expensive, and uncertain. Even getting information is a daunting task. So a lot of people are in limbo and at risk of deportation.

Oh, and while they sort out your case, they may ship you out to a concentration camp on Christmas Island.

Terminal Dogma's picture
Don't break the law and you

Don't break the law and you are not at risk of being deported. Don't go to another country just to live off welfare. I wou pay money to spend time on Christmas island.
