Why do you think outdated religious ideologies still dominate our culture and society? What do you think might be the reason for these beliefs to have become immune to criticism.
In my opinion, subjecting people to religious indoctrination from a very young age makes it very hard for them to question their beliefs when they become adults.
It must be rarely the case that an adult who has been spoon fed the doctrine of a particular religion for his/her entire childhood, becomes an atheist.Their 'faith' is just unshakeable. No amount of rational arguments and critical reasoning is going to change their mind.
Also, what are your opinions on the notion that atheism leads to nihilism.Could it be the case that there is an innate need for humans to avoid a sense of meaninglessness. Now, I am not an advocate of the above mentioned speculation, neither do I have anything against or for nihilism.I just want to know from people's personal experiences regarding the validity of that claim.

Religion is not relevant yet people have become complacent. People cannot think for themselves because they lie internally.
Who said religion is relevant?
Statistics.
Its not relevant to atheists but more than 75 percent of the world population subscribe to some kind of belief in the supernatural.
Religion isn't relevant to an atheist.
Apologists are taught they must channel their god connection through the conduit of religion. That's how it maintains its relevancy. Remove religion, remove the god connection. So, people maintain the connection and support the religions for the feel-good. That's how religions continue to be perceived as good things. It's a whole order of stupidity that cannot be defeated from outside itself. It has to run its course and as people learn about who they really are the god connection will be severed naturally, or organically as some call it, and religion will no longer be relevant.
Pitar,
I agree with you and I would add that people, especially parents, somehow perceive religion as good and useful even if they don't know anything about it.Personally speaking, my parents are okay with me being a non believer even though I live in an orthodox Muslim society. However, when I was growing up that was not at all the case. They started it off by sending me to a religious school (madrasa), and insisted that I prayed five times a day everyday. But of course, studying the scriptures lead me to becoming an atheist.Well, atleast that's how it started.
I think people are really ignorant on the fact that religion has nothing to do with being moral. There are a lot of people I know, who think that if it was not for religion, people would go around raping and killing.
That might also be one of the main reasons they can't let go.
Religion remains because long ago religions found a way to institutionalize society to accept the absurd. Therefore to refute religion one has to fight centuries of institutional indoctrination.
Religion is a very big business and tens of millions of people depend on it for their livelihood and social status. They are not willing to give that up and will fight and even kill to keep the money flowing.
From a practical matter it's really stupid that the average person pays any attention to any religion because 98% of what a modern person knows is new knowledge that's less than 100 years old. Religious beliefs are about the only thing that people cling to from the ancient past.
The relevance and persistence of religion in society is a complex and multifaceted topic, and opinions on it may vary. You can join bloxd io to get some perspectives on the matter.
