What's up everybody!
I'm not sure if I've posted this in the correct section of the forum... so if I've missed something super obvious, or totally fucked up, please let me know, LOL!
I've been an atheist for roughly ten years now - I'm currently 27 years old. I'm a pretty staunch atheist, to speak. For easy context, I'm like a 6.9 on the Dawkins scale. Essentially a gnostic atheist, though I suppose technically an agnostic atheist.
I think that the discovery of a god or gods would have to be a scientific one, because I'm not sure how else we would discover it/them objectively or empirically, unless there's some new paradigm of understanding the world around us that we're not even aware of yet. So, needless to say, I'm a naturalist.
I reject all forms of religion, from the intellectually stunted fundies to the pseudo-philosophical types. It's all silly to me, and I've debated with all kinds of theists and deists alike. At the end of the day, I'm simply comfortable with saying, "I don't know," whereas many religious people are not. In fact, I'm pretty damn sure there is not a god. There is just no reason to think so. But yes, technically, I do not know. I also do not know that vampires aren't real, or unicorns, or fairies, or underwear gnomes.
I really think the discovery of a god or gods would be absolutely fascinating. I think it is interesting to think about what the universe is... What if the universe is sort of fractal? If some physicists are correct in their speculation, maybe a black whole is a whole other universe that sits in the center of every galaxy... and maybe on some other level of reality that we don't understand, each universe is a molecule inside of some giant, cosmic creature. Of course I'm just spitballing here; this is just silly, interesting stuff to think about, in my opinion.
Outside of that, I believe nature is fascinating as is. Ultimately, religion is just not needed. Life is bizarre enough as is.
I'm here, mainly, because I don't talk about these issues with too many people IRL. I have more than a couple atheist friends, as I tend to gravitate towards individuals that are more skeptical and rational-minded, but most of them are just apathetic toward it and don't really care to talk about religion or atheism or whatever. Sometimes, trying to talk to my friends about issues surrounding atheism is like pulling teeth. I have one buddy whose response to anything regarding religion, or the lack thereof, is just, "I don't know man. I don't care. I don't really think about it." And to me, it's unfortunate, because there's a lot to talk about!
So, I am here to discuss, maybe debate a little bit, and mostly learn. I'm certainly no intellectual powerhouse; I'm of very average intelligence, haha! I just like talking about this stuff. I like learning about other people's opinions and hearing interesting things.
Thanks for reading my novella, haha, I hope I didn't bore you.

Welcome grs 2020!
You remind me some of myself when I first started posting here :)
I think you will fit in just fine. I for one, also like talking about this kind of stuff as do most here I think.
Well, thanks friend!
I like the little math quizzes at the end of every post... makes me feel all smart and stuff
@grs2020
Hah, about that math problem...
The answer to the math question oftentimes is: 20. Which I am sure any regular poster here has noticed.
I like math too and perhaps in a slightly ocd manner, I have kept track how often the answer to the question is 20.
Perhaps the most surprising thing to me, is in my limited data set, the percent is actually not what I expected it to be. Perhaps the writers of the code foresaw this issue and tinkered with the code to make it a bit less predictable. Or maybe my math on expected values was simply wrong.
I expected 47.62% (10 over 21) of the time the answer would be 20 but so far, my numbers are quite a bit less than that.
It is the first thing I thought of when I saw your name, well after thinking it was probably based on this year.
Yeah.. I go off on a weird tangent that is way off topic... A lot :)
..edited, corrected my math on expected percentage value.
@ GRS
Welcome, welcome, welcome.
I agree 100%...except about the sock elf. Keeps stealing ONE fucking sock....no I do not mean my wanking sock I mean ONE solitary fucking sock every time we do a wash.....little fucker.
Never seen him/her but obviously by the lack of sock and its reappearance (sometimes) in unrelated circumstances points to the existence of my footwear nemesis.
Thank you! And yes, that damn Sock Elf. I know that little fucker has been around my place quite a bit as well.
I think I like you....
@grs2020
"And yes, that damn Sock Elf. I know that little fucker has been around my place quite a bit as well."
Yair, here the little prick leaves many pairs of mismatched socks. His cousin the coat hanger fairy remains busy, still multiplying my coat hangers. .

Who are you Old man shouts clouds?

(He always starts his shows with: welcome welcome welcome!
@ Logic
I do!! erm I mean HE does!!!!
My spirit guide says you’re OK!
Welcome! Sometimes I fail the math quiz ...
Welcome GRS2020.
I really think the discovery of a god or gods would be absolutely fascinating.
First try asking the various flavors of god-salesmen to describe god to us so we know what to look for. Judging from what I learned as kid, the Xtian god will appear either as a hairy, fat old wild-eyed loon dressed in a sheet, or a tall, blonde, blue-eyed Jewish hippy wearing a white bathrobe.
There is no proof of god that couldn't be replicated or surpassed by sufficiently advanced technology.
@Algebe
I have long felt that the closest thing to "god" we will ever actually experience is: our selves, humans.
If we can assume human tech advancement at current rates to continue, just like how someone that lived ~200 years ago, would likely consider the average "rich" person today would seem more "god like" than human that they could relate to.
I suspect at current rates of advancement, continue, we would describe a rich/succesful person 100 years from now to live like "gods." With abilities and lifestyle that we would consider god like. The tech could very well exist at that point I could put a simple hat on a person's head that would interface directly with the brain to take over the senses and place the person in a highly convincing virtual world, then give myself god like powers in that virtual world. I am pretty sure such tech would convince 99+ percent of all religious folks that I was god beyond any doubt in their minds.
Welcome to the Dark Side.
Algebe... god is currently focusing his physical self in the form of Kimmy of North Korea. And keeping true to form, He won’t allow any testing of his claims. However judging from past stories of His interactions with his people, it’s plausible...
@Whitefire.
Indeed. The attached picture shows people worshipping a couple of gods. The one on left is officially designated as the "Eternal President" (Kim il Sung), and the one on the right the "Eternal Chairman of the National Defence Commission" (Kim Jong-il).
They're going to need a bigger plinth when the Eternal Gluttonous Scumbag finally drops dead.
