Do unto others

As if we need some stupid, archaic book of fairy tales to tell us this, right ???

So I do Rideshare. Last night, for about the 10th time in a year, a nice lady left her phone in my car. After I found it, I left it right beside me turned on. About 2 hrs later, she found a way to call me on her phone. Of course I returned it, because I know how screwed I'd be without mine !
Super easy return, as I was only a couple miles from her, plus between rides anyway.
After having already tipped me $5 for a good ride from the airport, she hands me $20..... Which I didn't totally argue about lol, but I did remind her that she already tipped me, and that I really appreciated it. She insisted though, and told me she would just be dead without her phone, which I totally get !

But here's the shi++y thing, I also spend some time on a Rideshare forum, and I was so bummed to see how many of them (surely several who call themselves christians) said they would toss it in the trash, or sell it....

I wish I could say all those A holes were christians, but recently someone did a poll for what religions people were on that forum, and it seemed like a solid 50% were actually atheists.

Honesty and personal

Honesty and personal integrity are strictly based on the individual, regardless of his/her religious belief or non-beliefs. I have known some "Christians" whom I would not want in my house for fear of having things come up missing, and I have known some whom I would trust with my life. Same with atheists and all those in between. Basically, being atheist or not has nothing to do with it.

One would think that doing

One would think that doing the right thing and treating others with common courtesy would be a simple thing. Sadly, in my experience, way too many people today seem to lack those abilities. Yes, I do know some fantastic folks who have a great sense of honor and personal integrity. Unfortunately, they are the rare exceptions to what seems to be the rule in the current "every-man-for-himself" mentality of today's society.

*edit* Good to see you as one of those rare exceptions, Fishy.

TY Tin Man.

TY Tin Man.

And I know your right. I think it's kind of human nature to try to connect things like, Well this person is a ______ so they must be _______
But this is so often completely wrong.

It sounds so trite, but you can just never judge a book by it's cover.

@Fishy Re: "...you can just never judge a book by it's cover."

Well, in this case, it may be more accurate to say, "You can't judge a book by its LABEL." *chuckle*

Christians like to take

Christians like to take credit for the Golden Rule, but it's far older. Versions of it have been handed down from ancient Egypt, Persia, Greece, and India. It's part of the Confucian tradition in China.

In my experience, you're least likely to find this principle put into practice in Christian societies. Sing a few hymns, put a few dollars in the plate on Sunday, and for the rest of the week stomp on people's faces. It's ok.

It seems so obvious to me to help other people when I can. Pay it forward.

Good on you Fishy1 for doing the right thing.

It's unfortunate to hear

It's unfortunate to hear about the negative experiences you've observed on the Rideshare forum regarding lost items. While it's disheartening that some individuals, regardless of their religious beliefs, may not prioritize returning lost belongings, it's important to remember uno online that people's actions can vary greatly regardless of their affiliations.
