"you only have naturalist

"you only have naturalist explanantions for life while leaving out the spiritual component."

And theists are oblivious to the personal spiritual experiences of the real world until they take off the blindfold provided by their imaginary friend. Theism is nihilist because its core teaching is that this world means nothing, that we are only here to prepare for eternal life in cloud fairy land.

skeptical christian,

It depends on what you mean by "proof," and on what you mean by "God." Credible rebuttals of "God" (some definitions of) certainly do exist! See my own thread "Science Gives God The Boot!" (08/07/2016 18:47) which gives strong reasons for rejecting the idea of any and all supernatural gods. However, if certain Christians can't acknowledge the basic facts of science, how much less will they acknowledge these disproofs of "God."

You have this ass backward.

You have this ass backward. You have the burden of proof. You assert a positive claim... which is that gods exist. So prove it.

jesus is a proven fact all

jesus is a proven fact all current scholarship points to that,he is the earliest source that we have he isnt imagined he lived a real physical life for 33 years as for the things of this world just look at the good christianity has done the red cross the refugee camps the hospitals the soup kitchens the shelters the christian universities etc, etc.i can go on do you wish me to?

" just look at the good

" just look at the good christianity has done the red cross "

The Red Cross is not a Christian organization. It's emblem is derived from the flag of Switzerland. It makes a point of maintaining complete independence from any government or religion. You can read about its history here.

are you a doubting thomas

are you a doubting thomas remember how he felt but when our lord came to him and showed him the holes and the nail marks he reconsidered yes blessed is the one who believes without seeing.thank jesus for the food that you ate and the water that you drank and bathe with and the very air that you breathe.yes he is a tremendous god holy and loving thats why i always proclaim him.

algebe's picture
"are you a doubting thomas "

"are you a doubting thomas "

Absolutely. But I always believe people until they lie to me. I found out the churches were lying to me a long time ago.

I always feel sorry for people called "Thomas". They are either too doubtful, or they are caught peeping at Lady Godiva.

When I first learned about Doubting Thomas, we were shown pictures of him inspecting Jesus' hands and finding holes in the palms. That's a bit odd. Crucifixion victims were nailed through the wrists, not the palms. The palms aren't strong enough to support the weight of the body for long. Yet every crucifix I've ever seen has the nails through the palms.

bigbill's picture
well evidently you havent

well evidently you havent been gracing the church for a long time in which i will pray for you, alot of churches have jesus our lord with the nails thru the wrist that i seen.just lok at the shroud of turin the nails are thru the wrist area.your making a big claim for such an irrelevant meaningless argument the point is that our lord came and died for humanity so one day that you and i can have eternal life the one who is without sin the second adam the first adam sinned so it took a perfect sacrifice sinless to please god the father.do you know any other religion that there god died like jesus did hindu jew muslim etc etc.,i don`t think do.repent and come to jesus the holy one.

"a lot of churches have jesus our lord with the nails thru the wrist"

I'm glad to hear they're getting more accurate with their death and torture fixation. All the ones I've seen have the hands outstretched with nails in the palms. You're right that I've not been in church for a long time. The last one I was in was hit by an earthquake and fell down.

The Shroud of Turin has been radiocarbon dated to around 1260 CE. It's medieval, and it originated in France. It's a fascinating artefact, though. According to one theory, it represents a primitive form of photography.

skeptical christian,

As chimp3 notes, the Shroud of Turin is a certified fake! "Judgement Day For The Turin Shroud" by Walter McCrone blows the snot out of it! Too bad that you, a fanatic, will never read that book. It would open your eyes. Radiocarbon dating, for example, shows that the shroud was made way later than Jesus' time and in an era where shrouds (and other relics) were a dime a dozen! The reddish stains are not blood but an inorganic pigment. The silly idea that the image was produced by a burst of radiation from Jesus' body ignores basic geometry. And, on and on it goes. If you read the book you will get the details.

I'll thank the farmers and the truck drivers for the food I eat. I'll thank the engineers who bring water to me. I'll thank green plants and algae for the oxygen I breathe. Let's give credit where credit is due. A farmer, outside in the cold and wet weather, planting his crop, said that he never saw God by his side helping with the hard work. But God gets the credit, right?

You see most people don't

You see most people don't give the credit to God. They say thank you to the people who prepared the food, and you should but when you eat you need to give thanks to God by praying but most don't. So we give credit to everyone.

Did you think that we were

Did you think that we were not aware of the stories in your bible? Anyway, can you please provide proof or at least good evidence that any of the claims you made about a character named Thomas in your special book actually occurred?

You certainly don't seem very skeptical. On the contrary, you seem convinced.

May I ask at what point in your life did you become convinced of the truth about Jesus?

bigbill's picture
well i mean i am skeptical

well i mean i am skeptical about atheist and agnostic humanistic secularist view points as for when i became interested in religion and started when i was 26 years old and been walking ever since.as for the truth of jesus it just is there for anyone to weigh the evidence for his life.he was a real person in the first century who had a following which till the present time is the biggest following in the world as we know and understand it.he definitely will come to you if you seek him he won`t force himself upon you he has given us a free will.he loved humanity so much that he surrendered his life at the age of 33.you see my friend is that once original sin came into existence there was a need for a sinless person to take away our sins.you don`t have to look that far to see the plight of the human condition.with suicide drug over doses crime wars the world is in a fallen state only one person could bring us back to god and that is the lord jesus christ.if we follow his dictates we will be a far off better society.don`t get me wrong there is a need for technology thats why god allows it but not at the expense of losing ones faith in god.

That is not skepticism. A skeptic approaches all claims with a pragmatic view. Skepticism does not mean prejudiced unbelieving.

"...there is a need for technology thats why god allows it but not at the expense of losing ones faith in god."

Then why was I allowed to create a thread on this forum for committing blasphemy!

Shifting the burden of proof.

Shifting the burden of proof. Shit, this is easy. I am not convinced that your assertion that gods exist is true. This is NOT the same thing as saying there is NO god.

See here that God is real. We

See here that God is real. We do have evidence God is real because we have the Holy Bible. if your parents taught you to believe in God, you will not believe in him after you have already believed in him. Cults are bad places, but if you happen to be in one then I tell you what you are doing is wrong. Some of them even burn people. And lastly religion is not a fairy tale! It is what you believe. Do you believe in fairy tales? No, but do I believe in God? YES! You may not because you have grown up that way or you decided to because that is what you BELIEVE! So on that note bye.

How is a story in an old book

How is a story in an old book Good evidence that gods exist?? What evidence do you have that is testable, repeatable, verifiable and falsifiable that gods or whichever god you believe in does in fact exist?? My bet is that you have NO good evidence.

what do you think of as an

what do you think of as an atheist you can`t accept the premise of proving there is no God.That is why I am agnostic on this subject. This argument has been going on for A long time now and so far science or philosophy hasn`t come up with anything proving the non existence of god.there are only hypothesis branded about, so the debate goes on between the theist and the atheists.

Dave Matson's picture
simply agnostic:

simply agnostic:

Despite many claims, the burden of proof has never been met. There are simply no rational, compelling reasons to believe in the God idea. It's not a debate between equals. Theologians have never gotten over the hump. Much of the debate goes on by sheer inertia, just like the anti-evolution "debate."
