Christian Nationalists' 2023 Political Strategy Revealed

American Atheists, an organization promoting religious equality and a member of Humanist International, warned about the likely strategy of white Christian nationalists in 2023 after the midterm elections.

Their warning is based on the organization’s 2022 State of the Secular States report, which comprehensively and thoroughly analyzes secularism and religious equality in all of America’s states and territories, including Puerto Rico and Washington, DC.

Man Ordered to Remove "Jesus is the Only Way" Shirt at Mall of America

A video capturing a confrontation between a man and security guards in Mall of America went viral online after guards asked him to remove his t-shirt, which read, in part, “Jesus is the only way.”

In the video taken by Kameko Rawls and uploaded on Facebook, one of the guards was seen talking to the man, identified as Paul Shoro, regarding his clothes. The bright yellow t-shirt read “Jesus Saves” on the front with another message on the back saying “Jesus is the only way” and the Coexist logo crossed out.

Survey Reveals that US Congress is More Religious than Most Americans

A new report from the Pew Research Center reveals that the 118th US Congress is more Christian and religious than the general public.

The new report says that around 88% of all members of Congress are Christian, compared to only 63% of Americans who identify as such. That includes 57% of Congress members who identify as Protestant and 28% who are Catholic, both higher than the national percentage.

Catholic Bishops threaten Biden with communion ban over abortion stance

On June 17, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has pushed ahead a draft in a majority vote that would deny President Joe Biden the Holy Communion because of his stance on abortion laws. Approval of this new statement will authorize individual bishops to deny Catholic politicians, who support abortion, the sacred rite of the Eucharist. Never has tensions between church divisions and the legislation been prevalent since the Trump administration. This new step has further reinstated the debate on the church's interference in politics.

New Study: Most American Atheists Oppose the Death Penalty

According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, the majority of the religiously unaffiliated are opposed to the death penalty. Most Americans favor the death penalty despite 78% of them saying there is some risk of innocent people being put to death. Last year, partly due to the pandemic, fewer people were executed in the United States than any other year in the past three decades.

Christian Baker Fined For Refusing to Make Cake For Transwoman

In Lakewood, Colorado, Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, had won a partial victory in a 2018 Supreme Court case for refusing to design a wedding cake for a gay couple on account of his own religious beliefs. Now again, he finds himself being the subject of another case regarding state discrimination laws for refusing to bake a birthday cake for a trans woman.

7 American States Still Ban Atheists From Holding Office

In January 2021, Republican Tennessee State Senator Mark Pody sponsored Senate Joint Resolution 55 to amend Article IX of the Constitution of Tennessee. Article IX has three sections that bar church ministers, atheists, and people who participate or aid a duel from holding any office in the civil department of the state.
