The bible
Corinthians 10:13 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)
13 There hath no temptation taken hold of you but such as is common to man. But God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond that which ye are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
The quran
Chapter 2 Surah Baqarah Verse 286:
286 On no soul doth Allah place a burden greater than it can bear.
Reality :
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that each year approximately one million people die from suicide, which represents a global mortality rate of 16 people per 100,000 or one death every 40 seconds. It is predicted that by 2020 the rate of death will increase to one every 20 seconds.
Question: Why are these one million people committing suicide every year? Is god lying? Were they not having more than they could handle?

You need to apply a bit of empathy to that statistic in order to answer that question.
When a person gets to the point that they want to commit suicide, it should become apparent that whatever they feel is very intense for THEM. You might not get it because their problems might not personally affect you, but it would be worse to label them cowards, inconsiderate, or ignorant of faith. As an atheist I don't think God is lying because I don't think there is God out there at all. The reality is that Suicide needs to be handled differently. Religion is available virtually everywhere yet, religious solutions obviously aren't working.

I concur. Even after 20½ years after the deaths of me family, I still have suicidal thoughts, several times a day. Every day. Every person needs to be considered differently for they are like snowflakes when it comes to suicidal thoughts, NO TWO ARE ALIKE. Of look at as fingerprints, again, NO TWO ARE ALIKE. I had religion made available to me when I was in Dorothea Dix Mental Institute (no longer exists). Us patients (more like prisoners) were forced to also attend a chapel service every day. As I listened to the bullshit the chaplain was spewing (and yes they called him a chaplain), it actually made my condition worse. Hell, for the first year, I spoke not one word. I only went through the routine because I found if I did not go to the chow hall, they would force feed me with a tube down my throat. I found that to be way more uncomfortable than simply shoveling the tasteless crap they served us, and they dared to call it food. I also found it more comfortable to simply answer the meds call than them forcing me to the medical center in a straight jacket to get the meds shot into me. Furthermore, it was my stay at Dorothea Dix where my wedding bands were stolen. Both mine and me wife's. Why? Because they were worth quite a pretty penny since they each cost at least $700. And they were worth more since price of gold had risen quite a bit at that time. How is that for what went on in the mental institutes at that time? One good reason for Bill Clinton to shut them all down.
It has nothing to do with any deity not testing us beyond what we can handle. It is simply life. Happenstance. Nothing more.
All religion is nothing more than lies made up by MEN who were megalomaniacal psychotic sociopaths. If you think I am wrong, then look at the violence and terrorism used by the two biggest religions in the world. If memory serves, the ONLY religion which has had no violence in its past is Jainism. Prove me wrong. Prove to me all religions are not the manifestations of megalomaniacal psychotic sociopaths seeking a method of controlling the masses and feeding their Megalomaniacal Psychosis Disorder, Narcissistic Personality Disorder, Inferiority Complex Disorder, Schizophrenic Delusion Disorder; otherwise, collectively known as Religious Stigmata Traumatized Disorder (RSTD). Sometimes Dissociative Delusion Disorder can be added to the RSTD.
Of course, not everyone falls into this characterization. Mainly, it is the church leaders like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Billy Graham and his brood, Joel Osteen, The Catholic Pope, ANY of the Catholic priesthood, any Islamic Imam and others of the priesthood including many of those in the governments of Islamic States, etc., etc., etc. The masses that support them have simply brainwashed themselves into believing those sorry shits are worthy of being worshiped, for the masses ain't worshiping ANY deity. They are literally worshiping those assholes behind the pulpit and the buulshit lies they spew like dairrhea.
Also remember these two memes:
When one person suffers delusion, it is called insanity.
When many persons suffer delusion, it is called religion.
Religion is not merely a tool to oppress the masses, it is a self perpetuating scam that leads the masses to oppress themselves. — Micheal Sherlock
The two quotes by SSoB I pasted above are very true. More true than anything religion can offer. Ultimately, the ONLY reason I do not commit suicide is because it would completely, absolutely, totally, and utterly dishonor me wife and twin daughters. My continuing does nothing but HONOR me wife and twin daughters. I shall be the first to admit I see no other reason to continue in this shit-hole we call Earth. Do I seek death? No. But I could less if I should die. I have made a stand proving an atheist can and will continue to honor the memories of me wife and twin daughters. Ultimately, since I still live, I do the best I can to help further humanity to where it should ascend, no matter how samll or insignificant. Even if no one else remembers. All one would have to do is browse the old threads here.

My point regarding this post was not what you guys are talking about. I am really sorry for not choosing the right words here. This post and the others to follow are all to keep religious apologists at bay from this page. I am from a country where it is hard to even talk about such stuff not to mention questioning it.
I hope you forgive me
@Hitch: Is god lying?
No. God is not guilty by reason of non-existence. The people who created god and who live off god's immoral earnings are lying. They're so crooked they can't even put their collars on the right way round.
Sometimes the human condition is just too hard for some people. They're so distraught and in so much pain that they can't imagine a time when things might be better. Priests and prayers can't help them. Only people can help them. Maybe.
Religions add to the torture of human beings in such torment by telling them that suicides go to hell. Shit. Some sects won't even let them be buried in so-called sacred ground. The churches also adamantly oppose voluntary euthanasia for people suffering horrific and incurable diseases. Christianity truly is a cult built on torture and pain. Look at its symbol.
I just hope that those who commit suicide are able to get the religious monkey of their backs and get a modicum of peace by dying as atheists.
@Algebe/thread
In the obviously very flawed simplistic view of religion, you need your basic carrot and stick, (heaven and hell) but it was quickly figured out a potential shortcut to the carrot, would be suicide. Religions do not grow to be big and successful and widespread if their followers are taking that particular shortcut to the carrot all the time, so pretty quickly they figured out they have to make suicide a bad thing (stick/hell.) A dead religious follower is not giving tithe, is not helping making more babies/followers or staffing the armies of the leaders. Related, religion was also very useful tool to convince people to face likely painful awful death far from home on a king/religion leader's whim to expand or enforce their rule.
People who commit suicide get the religious monkey off their back by default, whether they want to or not.
Good points about christianity being a cult of pain and suffering along with their symbol (the cross/crucifixion.) Looked at from an outside perspective a particularly macabre/dark symbol to have, to touch all the time, to talk to, to worship.
The bible and the Koran are archaic fallible human ideas. Christianity and Islam are vapid superstitions.
The human condition is complex, and suicide is an equally complex issue. Each person may have their limit, but ironically if we could view our lives as a retrospective we might be surprised where that limit was at any given point. The human mind is both incredibly robust, and paradoxically incredibly fragile, it's one of life's ironies.
As a species we can do more to help those who are near that limit, and more importantly to make sure we don't treat people in such a way that pushes them towards that limit, wherever it may be for each person at any given point in their life.
The questions are rhetorical to religious apologists coming here.
In response to the OP. The holy book was wrong.
