Ok, one last post before I go

Ok, one last post before I go.

There's a theme running through this entire thread, even this board in places, and it is hardly a strawman.

"Everything spiritual isn't about asserting or challenging a set of beliefs."

When I first came here and shared the basis of my belief, I soon found myself immersed in a game where a whole lot of energy was directed into digging out subjective truths out of someone and trying to get the person to provide objective proof for them. I can see that as a very fun game to play, especially with those who try to make out like their subjective is objective. It's a fun enough game, so I played it, wiggling a little comment here and there to see how much effort would be made to get me to assert an unfalsifiable belief so it could be challenged to provide objective evidence. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Then I found here in this thread that the game of challenging belief might just be something that is being used to suppress angst. And that the spiritual side of some, by no means all here in the forum, is being suppressed via that drive to find and root out assertions that can't be proven, to keep angst at bay. That drive can turn a ten post thread into a two hundred post monster if one doesn't satiate it. That's my subjective opinion from observation.

I implore all, don't deny what makes you whole, and I'm not talking about God or anything supernatural here, I'm talking about your own spirituality, which does indeed exist in every fully functional human. If might indeed awaken your own doubt, your angst, but when embraced, it can be a very wonderful thing, and a much more fulfilling existence in my personal experience. I think that Sam Harris book might be a great guide to help get there without concern about running into someone else's subjective beliefs in the process. It outlines exactly what I am talking about here, and he makes excellent points along the way, all without adding dogma.

Debate

noun

a formal discussion on a particular matter in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward and which usually ends with a vote.

verb

argue about (a subject), especially in a formal manner.

Hope this clears up your confusion.

Homer " I'm talking about your own spirituality, which does indeed exist in every fully functional human."

I'm dubious, what objective evidence can you demonstrate for that claim?

@Whitefire13

I know, comedy gold. Is it a fake flounce to pretend he's having the last word do you think, or is he actually taking his comedy act on the road?

His perfidy was pretty relentless, but after all these months of his rhetoric I doubt anyone here knows very much about what he actually believes beyond professing the generic claim to be a Christian.

I'll tell you what though he has taught me one thing....

Oh, no, sorry that was another poster. Nope nothing at all then.

Ok, let’s see... definition of “spirituality”

Doing something (yoga, tv watching, reading, whatever)(Edited to add: “spirits”)
Feel something “good”
Don’t identify “feeling”

Call it spiritual.

There! Done.
Now, what is the “antonym” ? Unidentified “bad” feeling???? Hmmmm...gotta think this one through

Whitefire13's picture
I prayed first!

I prayed first!

‘k

Antonym of “spiritual”... “bad” feeling that is unidentified; usually results in an unpleasant physical experience; opposed to “good”.... let’s call it “Satan”

I wonder if these disgruntled

I wonder if these disgruntled theists are all grouped together somewhere, on another forum, all berating AR and the atheist posters who frequent it, for having the temerity to ask them to evidence their superstitious beliefs?

If so, can you all shift over one please, to make room for Homer, and please don't ask him any probing questions, he doesn't care for that.

Doesn’t Spirit usually sweep

Doesn’t Spirit usually sweep down about now and “rescue” them...

Is Spirit banned? I can’t remember... maybe they are swooped “somewhere” in the sky...

That’s where
I’m gonna go when I die
When they lay me to rest
I’m gonna go to the place
That’s the best...

Nighty night...
