The Sun has been emitting heat for around 5 billion years as a result of the constant chemical reactions taking place on its surface. At a moment determined by Allah in the future, these reactions will eventually come to an end, and the Sun will lose all its energy and finally go out. In that context, the above verse may be a reference to the Sun's energy one day coming to an end. (Allah knows the truth.)

Oh no. I only have another 5 billion years to live.
"At a moment determined by Allah in the future, these reactions will eventually come to an end, and the Sun will lose all its energy and finally go out."
No..not at a moment determined by Allah...the "moment" will be determined by the rate that the hydrogen within the sun's core is used up. Simple science...no need for a deity here.
"the above verse may be a reference to the Sun's energy one day coming to an end. "
It MAY be....it may not be....and as the following verse refers to "building mansions for the moon" I tend to think not.
"(Allah knows the truth.)"
But apparently he knows nothing of the huge expansion of the dying sun... (It will expand to fill half the sky as seen from earth.)
Nor does he mention the change in colour....the sun changes to various shades of orange on its way to becoming a Red Giant.
So apparently Allah only knows bits of the truth.....But then again ...maybe not ...as the following verse speaks of the sun orbiting like the moon...("They float each in an orbit.")
"And the Sun runs to its resting place.".... very much as the Egyptians said about Ra.... and the Babylonians said about Shamash...
But then this Allah you speak of was only one of 360 odd deities/idols originally worshipped in the Kaaba in the days before the coming of Mohammed..... perhaps he is not quite the all powerful creature you take him for...
And now folks we have the new and improved bunk-o-matic. Specifically engineered to detect and identify bunk automatically saving you precious time and thought to commit to real life matters like, say, organizing your sock drawers or watching paint dry. Not only does it detect bunk but it also files it in a safe firewall awaiting your push of a single button to send it to the places all molecular nonsense goes. Check with your local dealer for details.
Funny how the Koran reveals no more scientific knowledge than what the average seventh century merchant would know. "Nothing lasts forever except god" is not science.
