More importantly this may solve the "battery problem" that more than anything else is holding back solar adoption. If we can convert solar to a fuel with little loss in efficiency, not only could we power cars and planes with it, we can also store that energy to use at night.

The future's already here. Tesla is offering a home battery product for solar power storage. We'll be getting one when the price comes down a bit more. Right now we generate more power off the roof than we can use in the daytime, so we sell it to the power company, which sells it back to us at about 10 times the price at night.
Elon Musk was in Australia a few weeks ago offering to fix South Australia's power problems by building a battery farm. He said if it wasn't working in 100 days it would be free.

The solar fuel technology has a lot of potential for advancing solar power. It gives new meaning to solar power.
