So some prophets walk into a bar...

...And everybody & their pets thinks they are absolute clowns because In the modern world, People who predict the future aren't taken seriously.

Who can we blame for that? Ms Cleo? The greedy NY psychics who scam people out of thousands of dollars? Nahh I don't think so. Although these people mistake the word Prophet for Profit, They are not the one's completely responsible for how ludicrous they look.

You can blame the way the modern era sees today's prophets on COMMON SENSE.

Don't lie, If someone claiming to be a man/woman of god arrived at your doorstep & asked you to give them a significant portion of your income in return for the vague promise that you'll get into heaven after you die... Shouldn't you be a least a little skeptical?

It is even evident the way we portray modern day prophets in movies set in modern times. They are always homeless looking, Standing in Times Square, Holding up a sign saying the world is ending or some shit like that and that is how modern day prophets are treated in real life. If not that, They are either the antagonist in the movie(the bad guy) or they sound a bit crazy.

I would like to think that most of us know that humans do not have special powers that allow us predict the future. Neither can any human tell you what happens when you die. Furthermore, All holy books are written by HUMANS. Humans who claimed to be prophets.

If you cannot confide in a modern day prophet, Then why oh why do you base your entire short lives around a holy book written by ancient lunatics?

...Anyway yeah so the bartender says holy shit that was fast. I just ordered that shipment of nuts!

@ SecularSonofABiscuitEater -

@ SecularSonofABiscuitEater - I Disagree with you.

Your world view is relegated to the sceptical west. However a tour of our ever believing east you will find a rather different narrative.

Here Scantily Clad men spouting generic phrases and glorifying an old text are revered as Gods not just prophets. They form the richest and most influential people in India.

Look up the following names:
1. Sathya Sai Baba (This guy has had numerous allegations against him of cheating and sexual abuse)
2. Sri Sri Ravishankar (Sri in Sanskrit means Mr. He was so pious he needed two Mr. in front of his name)
3. Yogi Adityanath (This dude become a chief minister and his goons slaughter people in his state suspected of having beef)
4. Asaram Bapu (This dude has weird sex fetiches and dead bodies were unearthed from his ashram)
5. Jaggi Vasudev (Involved in land grabbing scams)
6. Baba Ramdev (started out teaching yoga, now own a multibillion dollar company selling substandard products as all natural and ayurvedic)

The respective heads of the Shia orders are influential and rich as fuck here with people clambering to make their aquantaince. The head of the Bohra clan are at war with each other and the matter has been taken to court over who is the rightful successor. the entire mater is subjudis.

Mystical India is just a nice way of saying blind faith India.

Agreed @Charvak this post was

Agreed @Charvak this post was aimed toward our friends on the west side. Europe & Oceana too to a point. I haven't forgotten about our friends to the east, but this wasn't geared towards them.

I understand your pov. I'm very familiar with Sai Baba. My Dads side of the family has always held him in high regard.

The thing I was poking fun at is the Western Hipocrisy of prophet worship.

And not to mention that in

And not to mention that in India, if you have the audacity to dare to point out that it’s bullshit, you will be arrested for Hurting Religious Sentiments™- no, seriously- I’ve heard that someone (I don’t remember their name) once got arrested for debunking a “holy water” myth at a church in Mumbai, where people were literally being given sewage to drink at a church, which claimed that drinking it would give them some magical blessing woo from Jesus... go figure >:(
