Sharia courts in Britain

This is what's happening in Britain due to this vile religion:

Quote:
Sharia courts operating in the UK are treating women as second-class citizens, a damning report has revealed.

The secretive Islamic tribunals, working mainly from mosques, settle financial and family disputes according to religious principles.

But the parallel justice system runs against the law of the land and is condemning British Muslim women to ‘marital captivity’ while failing to protect them from domestic violence, an independent study found.

Of course the article doesn't

Of course the article doesn't tell you that you have to be a willing party to the Sharia arbitration process. If you volunteer to subject yourself to a kangaroo court, then you should reap what you have sown.

Muslim women are brought up

Muslim women are brought up to be subordinate to men so you can hardly say that they volunteer.... the point is that English law is framed to avoid that situation, that everyone has a fair trial, that religion does not bear down on women. That we have sharia in Britain is a disgrace. And it's not just Islam; there are Jewish 'courts' too, I believe. Everyone should be subject to, and get the benefits of, English/Scottish law.

I got no sympathy for people

I got no sympathy for adults in western democracies who choose to follow a religion that openly oppresses them. They get exactly what they deserve, IMO.

That's harsh, imho. I have

That's harsh, imho. I have sympathy for people who find themselves trapped in difficult situations. Drug addicts, for example, many of whom got hooked at a young age through being gullible, smokers ditoo, alcoholics who find it difficult to dry out. Those muslim women will be trapped in their culture/religion, trapped in marriages they don't like but can't get out of.

I know a woman - not muslim or immigrant btw - who was similarly trapped in an abusive marriage and stayed because of the child. In her words, she left him 10 times and went back 9. It's not easy even when you have a liberal western upbringing, let alone as an immigrant with an oppressive culture/religion.

The law should be changed to help them, by banning any faith-based 'arbitration' system so that their grievances can be dealt with by the CJS.

Nutmeg - "trapped in

Nutmeg - "[muslim women] trapped in marriages they don't like but can't get out of"

They can easily get out of them.

You're a harsh person,

You're a harsh person, apparently with little compassion or understanding.

The 'marriage' these

The 'marriage' these religious bodies rule over is a religious only marriage, not the legal marriage of the state. Those religious bodies have 0 authority over state marriages (and divorce). We have similar things here in the United States: where Christian churches provide similar services to their members. They commonly tell abused spouses that it is not possible to get a divorce in the eyes of god, on the ground of battery.
