George Pell loses appeal, will remain in jail on child sex charges.
He will have to complete his 6 year and 8 month sentence before parole. He will be in Protective Custody for the duration of his sentence.
Prisons in Victoria, Australia are often old, overcrowded and very noisy. What this silk lined cardinal so richly deserves.
What is it about theists that so excuses pedophila in all abrahamic religions and sects?

Yeah, was just watching the judgement ,. A close thing; his appeal was rejected on the basis of the word of ONE witness the jury AND the court found credible. He has non parole period of 3 years . He'll get a discount of 1/3 for good behaviour. He'll be out in 2 years, at age 81, assuming his health doesn't fail. He' looks physically frail to me. He could easily die in prison. .
They got him for ONE. I find it hard to believe there was only one abuse. Seems to me he may have gotten off lightly.
He is 81....
One should not be blamed for considering the possibility that the church did this as a feeble PR ploy to try and make it look like they are tough on (systemic!) pedo priest problem. They rounded up 1 pedo that is about to fall over dead anyway and told him he probably only get a year or 2 in a private room/bath with security 24/7. All in attempt to make it look like the church is doing something about a problem that is so bad that a incredibly rich and powerful church actually fails at covering it all up.
@Logic Re: "...All in attempt to make it look like the church is doing something about a problem..."
Sounds pretty accurate to me. I can totally see a group of his superiors approaching him like, "Look, dude, we need somebody to take one for the team. It is a great honor that we have chosen YOU to save our beloved institution. God will bless you for it. You may even get a sainthood for your sacrifice." Yep, I can totally see that happening.
@Cranky Re: "Seems to me he may have gotten off lightly."
Oh, NO DOUBT he got off multiple times over the years. Difficult to say, though, how many of those times were lightly.
@ Cranky
Rumours swirled around Pell for years. And I stand corrected...yep he could be out in 3.4 years, I didn't think "good behaviour" was a thing in Victoria anymore? It certainly is not in WA where "Good Behaviour" in considered normal behaviour and bad behaviour results in a longer time before parole if you are, indeed eligible...
He should have gotten 20+ years.
@Xenoview: He should have gotten 20+ years.
He should stay in jail until the kid who killed himself stops being dead.
[sarcasm]Have you learned nothing here Algebe? The way to get justice is have the child molesting priest pay some blood money to the victim's family. Then the priest can go back to molesting children. Problem solved!
/e Oh but wait a minute: maybe the priest isn't guilty at all! Did the child have a chance to kill themselves before being raped; because as we've learned from our most recent Muslim user, if the victim chose not to kill themselves before the rape, it isn't rape.
Oh and I guess I no longer have to worry about over-using my ban authority on this site; since I'm not really banning anyone! Yeah, they all had the opportunity to commit suicide before I banned them.[/sarcasm]
@Nyarlathotep: The way to get justice is have the child molesting priest pay some blood money to the victim's family.
I'm just trying to figure out where blood money for raped children fits into poverty, chastity, and obedience.
@Nyarl..
Blood money? Surely ROYISM maintains you can just marry the child and it's then perfectly moral to rape it?
The mind boggles...
More on Pell.

There was one dissenting judge on the three-judge panel. He had doubts about the credibility of the main witness.
The head appeal court judge had some harsh things to say about the animated video that Pell's defense team tried to use in the original trial. The trial judge rightly ruled that it was designed to mislead the jurors. In other words, false witness.
She also had a lot to say about Pell's robes, which he claimed were too cumbersome to allow misbehavior. It sounds like the appeal judges did some research and found that a bishop's robes could easily be opened or pushed aside to allow convenient access for blowjobs or buggery with choirboys.
This story is one of tragedy, not of Pell, but the young man who died.
This story is one of justice over an institution that has run roughshod over people as individuals.
I hope we see more convictions.
At least a "Yay!"
This just hit my inbox. National Catholic Register's leading article is on how Pell protected children from pedophiles.

By not sharing?
"Pell protected children from pedophiles."
In the way some prison inmates "protect" new inmates by making them their "boy".
This twat was on a debate panel with The Hitch, taking about how he couldn't see how morality was possible if a deity didn't exist.
A bit like ROYISM who also thinks paedophilia is moral.
YEA!!!!!!! NOW LETS FIND A WAY TO PUT THE FUCKING POPE BEHIND BARS FOR HIS COMPLICITY!
It's no surprise that the Pope, whomever takes the role, is always ancient... looking like one of the poor buggers at the end of Indianna Jones - Raiders Of The Last Ark.
Still, they always look like they're wearing some horrific mask, like a scooby doo villain!
Not to mention, they're then driven around in what essentially looks like an ice cream van.
The signs were all there!
