Render unto Ceaser

I don't know any christian that follows or even understands this biblical passage. When I was young and an episcopalian, Father Law (that was actually his name) told me that this passage meant that god owns the afterlife of all beings. that the material world is for those who live in it while they live in it. So why are these CRAZY evangelicals SO fucking interested in the material world in the first place? The force they way into politics, schools, every aspect of the material world. The question is why?

"Matthew 22:21 Jesus said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." Romans 13:1 "Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God and those which exist are established by God."

Ironically there is no such statement like Render unto Herod that which is Herod's. Since Herod was chosen by god to be king of the jews he had the authority that jesus spoke of allegedly!

Given the option, I would

Given the option, I would rather render unto Loki that which is Loki's. Basically, that would be anything along the lines of a whoopee cushion, to a hand-shake zapper, to a water-squirting flower. At the very least, it would be much more fun and entertaining.

I never considered the verse

I never considered the verse profound. I mean, it basically means others can interpret what is God's and what is Caesar's, without getting Jesus into trouble.

I do not think a Jesus

I do not think a Jesus existed. The question would be, who did put that quote in the Bible and why?

I have no idea WHO did it, but I have a pretty good guess as to WHY...

@Chimp3: who did put that

@Chimp3: who did put that quote in the Bible and why?

Matthew put it in, and he was a tax collector. His job was to render unto Caesar, while skimming a little off the top for himself.

...Question: If so many believers have trouble understanding the simplest of lyrics, what does that say about their ability to grasp their holy texts? Unquote.

The text that you site; is

The text that you site; is Jesus playing politics here. He can`t say don`t give to Caesar because then the Romans will object and that could lead to an early death. Also give to GOD what belongs to God was about the temple tax an supporting what took place in the temple. Also to give your life to God .since God Owns everything anyway he deserves what humanity can contribute to his kingdom .Jesus does not condemn anyone to render unto Caesar but he is well aware of people`s hesitancy in supporting his work for the kingdom.

@Faith in God....: that could

@Faith in God....: that could lead to an early death

Why should that matter? Everyone who follows Jesus will enjoy eternal life singing in a heavenly choir won't they?

It's a fucking parable for cryin' out loud. It has nothing to do with paying money to the temple or politics or any bullshit you want to make it out to be with your crazy fucked up imagination!

Y es Algebe that`s true But

Y es Algebe that`s true But it was not yet Jesus Time to die. He had the last supper to inaugurate holy communion, The washing of the feet, He had to bring the new covenant to fruition. In Gods time table it is different then ours; one day is as a thousand years to God. Jesus felt it was important for his followers to pay there share of taxes to Rome. But not to leave GOD out especially in the temple tax that went to Roman authorities anyway .God has a set time period for all of us,no matter short in duration or long term. You have to remember he wasn`t a revolutionary against Rome imperialism his was a spiritual kind of grievance against his fellow Jews and Pagan Rome.

Pretty weak god where his

Pretty weak god where his "son" can't say things or he will die too soon. I mean this is supposed to be the god that created heaven and earth, the great flood etc. And made the son via immaculate conception.

Pretty weak god that can not protect his worshipers from an empire. Sounds a lot more like some human writing a story where they feel compelled to say: hey pay your taxes guys!

@faith in god: one day is as

@faith in god: one day is as a thousand years to God

I think you got the exchange rate the wrong way around there. A day for god is a thousand years for us mere mortals isn't it? But then god is supposed to be outside of time, so it doesn't make sense at all either way.

I don't think you can separate Roman imperialism from Roman paganism. They were doing Jupiter's work. And the temple taxes ended up in Rome after the fall of Jerusalem. They paid for the construction of the Colosseum.

I don't know what benefits people got for paying temple taxes. At least the Roman taxes provided sewers, aqueducts, law and order....

Well Algebe it was for the

Well Algebe it was for the upkeep to maintain the Jewish sacrificial system .When I was In JERUSALEM over ten years now I was on the grounds of The western wall called the wailing wall, and a Rabbi came up to me and with a shouting voice demanded money a shekel for the upkeep of the grounds there. So you can just imagine under Roman Rule before the war in AD 66 what emotions there were concerning the temple, because according to Jews at the time nothing was more sacred then the temple.it supposedly contained the Hoy of Holies, Where the once a year priest would enter for the peoples sins .They would affix a rope to him and slowly with great reverence he would enter. The rope was for just in case he died while inside.

@Faith in God: When I was in JERUSALEM
LOL. That's called a tourist trap. When I was in Rome, a ticket collector demanded money to pay for the upkeep of the Coliseum. The Pope demanded money from me to look around the Vatican. It cost seven euros from memory. In Florence they demand money from you for driving down the wrong street, though I don't know how you're supposed to know that.
