Hello everyone,
I have become very suscipicous that religion work because a subtantial part of the human population have authoritarian tendencies Look at the frecnh revolution, the people's spring, Franco's conter-revolution, the election of Trump or the recent one in Brazil.
Another fact (wich can lead to another thread), the Church, for all its talk about equality, won over Rome during the imperial era, i wonder how a republic would have deal with christianity. For all the mediaval period in Europe, it supported feodality, a very vertical and unequal organization of society.

In some baboon troops the alpha-male troop leader, as he gets older, recruits two other males to support his authority. One can be seen as his "military leader", the other as his "wise advisor".
What are you intending to say Senior?
Certainly power and control are a big part of Religion. The Catholics are set up like a military unit. And remember, they are in a battle, good against evil. You are with them or against them. Certainly your perception has merit.
Only the Catholics? What about Protestants? Evangelicals? Mormons? Being born of Zoroastrianism certainly help.
