Rationalism Explained by Me

TLDR: I would pick one paragraph out of this to read, any one. If you want to read more go ahead, it is very long, most of it explains the same things different ways, and can get repetitive. But I don't want to edit much or any of it out because I do like it all and want it to be read.

I am not an amazing person, let's start with that. I am, basically, just like everyone else. I am unique though, there are differences between me and EVERY other person on this planet. The main one, my conscious thought, and thought process. I can only control what I do, these are all facts. There might be someone who looks, literally, just like me but they are not me. They might even have the same exact story of life, or damn close to it, but they are not me. I would like to meet this person if he exists though, I would love to have a beer with a 20 year old named Steven G******, that is pretty lanky, got made fun of for stuttering in high school, and spent 4 years of his life experimenting with drugs. I would Love to meet me. Once again, these are facts, except for the "I would love to meet me" part, that is an opinion, but in my head it makes sense, it is rational. And that is why I am even writing this. I am only 20 years old but I have been here, on this Earth, long enough to see some real shit. I have lived a "white privileged" life thus far, I have. I cannot avoid it, I was born to 2 loving parents who made $100k+ a year, gave me everything I needed until I was able to fend for myself, and even then now I still get some help. It is family, I love my family and would do a lot for them. But that does not mean I should do "bad" or "evil" things in the name of my family, or anything actually. The question is, however, "what is bad, and what is good?". Well when religious people get asked this, they will point to their holy book and say "see! right there, it says it right there!". It does, you're right. Some genius 6000 years ago, or like 30 if you're a scientologist, wrote that shit down. That does not make it a fact. It doesn't, not everything in every book ever made is a fact, nor is everything on the internet. I am not saying that it was a bad set of rules though. Let's break it down real quick here. The Ten Commandments:

1.) “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me". Ok god. I get it, you want us to worship you, (probably because that gives you power). But you did not lead ME, myself, or anybody I know out of the land of Egypt, out of bondage. I do not know if THAT is true, you are my only source apparently. So clearly, whoever wrote this wanted to talk to a specific group of people. If god existed he would be talking to EVERYONE, if god loves all of his children then there should be an objective set of rules to govern us. This is not objective, not completely. So by this I rationalize that god is not real, this is very small evidence of it, but show me the evidence that he is real. Prove to me he exists TODAY. If he existed 2000 years ago, and left? I am kinda pissed, A) because I missed it, and B) we must of done something real wrong back then and C) If you're going to leave this race of people on it's own, why the hell did you start this religion that has done as much harm as it has done good. That is my argument. I can't argue with god, mainly because he cannot answer me, but having this all powerful being that you can't question doesn't make any sense.

2) “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My Commandments." Literally this sounds like a threat to me, believe in me or your children 3-4 generations away will suffer. What a threat, a threat you can't prove because, based on how life usually works, I will die before I meet my great grandkids, or my great great grandkids. Unless I have a kid at 18, my kid has a kid at 18, that kid has a kid at 18, I'll be 54 or 72,. It's possible but still, not many have done it, and back in that day, the life expectancy was definitely lower then it is now, so it was even harder to become that old. And I am pretty sure there are atheists, people who don't believe, that have had families, and lived long happy lives, and their kids are completely fine, if not awesome. Does that not sound possible? The people who wrote the bible are people, and if they are rational, which all people are, until you insert religion, they will want what is best for them. Starting this religion, or writing this down, was the best for them. Why? Well if I got to survive, in that time, based off of writing and promoting a book, making the world's biggest book club, I would totally have done it. Why would I want to labor all day when someone else is surviving for just talking? I want to be rich in this life, look at all of the rich people who can just put money in a bank, earn interest, and eat. They don't have to do anything else, most do, to make more money of course. We all want to be rich, to be well off, to be set up for life, because we have seen it possible. Also the "I am a jealous god" part, really urks me. So you're an amazing thing, all-powerful and what not, but you have emotions?! Just like us? I get jealous all the time, of people who have more then me. But come on why are you jealous god? If you are all right and all knowing then you should have the confidence to believe that you are the only option, you're all we've got. Oh what's that? Someone believes differently? Sucks for them haha they're wrong, but hey how bout they live just like everyone else, because a belief is not worth dying over. Sometimes, and more and more recently, the belief of fighting for your country is becoming less and less powerful to me, atleast. I "support the troops" as much as anyone else, they are amazing people that are dedicating their lives to defending me, and my friends, and this country from threats. Only problem is, we are not defending it from threats, we are attacking others. That is not logical, why we have troops in Germany, Greece, Japan, Italy, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan. Do we own any of that? Some military bases there, but why do we have military bases in Germany? Yea we were there to Kick hitler's ass and stop that from happening, and we even stayed to rebuild. Now it's like its a vacation home for the troops, which they kind of need by the way. Germany has it's own military, it can defend itself. Why waste our money in a place that we are doing nothing productive in. Yea we built bases there, couldn't we sell them? Make some money? Maybe the germans dont want them but come on. I digress. Yes I went on a completely different tangent there but it connected where it did, and it is all a rational thought. Argue with me on this, I dare you. Tell me I am wrong, use facts. If you are right and have more evidence then I do and can base it off of science I will concede and we can talk about those facts, because they are facts and that is the only thing I can truly believe in anymore.

3.“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Another threat. Come on, why can't I do this god? Is it such a bad thing to make fun of you? In America we have free speech, we can totally make fun of our leaders or anyone, it might piss some people off but if it is a logical argument being made, that is also funny, I think that is completely fine, possibly even great. If you're a god, why do you care about what we do to/for you, we can't hurt you, we can hurt your damn feelings apparently. But then you can kill any of us at anytime, I don't like this abusive relationship.

4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it."
Sweet, a schedule. Before this I wonder how people were living their lives on the daily basis. "Should I work today? I don't know, does work need done? Yea? Aight". It sets up the nice day of rest, I like the idea though. Work a lot and get a day of rest, hey atleast be productive often. But you set up the day, a holy day, which turned into a bookclub meeting. I want to REST, not read. Reading is work for the eyes and mind, I want to rest or do something Fun. Not to mention this commandment mentions servants, now back in that time, slaves existed. Slavery has been a thing for, well I know when it ended in America, Abraham Lincoln gave the Emancipation proclamation ending slavery. FACT. But based off of other readings, and accounts, slavery was not a new thing to the post-renaissance world. This is god, at least saying slavery is real, and possibly vouching for it. Shouldn't god be against slavery? People owning people. I don't want to be owned, or told what to do. Sometimes I do want to be told what to do but it's my choice, whether to do what they say or even listen. Come on Bible, I want to believe, I have heard so much hype but so far, my arguments against it grow and grow. "interpret it how you want it" is not applicable, if this is the word of god, literally WHAT HE SAID, then I have some serious qualms. IF you're going to believe in a religion, go balls to the wall. Don't half ass it, and if you take parts out of the bible, that are false, because we have grown and proven that a 2000 year old book had some wrong things in it, then why isn't the whole thing suspect to being wrong? Game of thrones, a show I love to watch, could totally be real if you had no idea of facts. If you were just born, and all you had was a TV, with game of thrones on it, locked in a room that got water and food and survival needs delivered to it, until you were able to understand what was going on in the show, wouldn't you think that Game of Thrones is real? It is your only source. Why would you have any other thought in your head? It is all you can see and hear and think. Correlate that to religions, this was their only source for rules or what god is. No evidence to debunk it... YET. Some of the stuff in game of thrones is "real", not real as in it happened but people, fighting with armies for power, killing mercilessly, having agendas, is real. It is a story, just like any story, but there is a lot of evidence that says game of thrones is not real, lots of it, almost none saying it is. I am not saying it is. But now, we have evidence that can conflict with these original bible teachings, that are facts. And yet we still believe in this stuff. I am not saying it is all a lie, but it very well could be and your only real source on it is the book you're believing, it is circular logic. You cannot just trust one source, in school we used to use wikipedia for everything, and teachers would say "no wikipedia" to make us look elsewhere, and also they made us use several source for papers. Come on, it is a 2000 year old book with some good ideas, and some bad ones. If you believe in what the original makers of the bible and people back then believed in, it would differ from your religious values today. Because religion has evolved too, and they have adapted TO SURVIVE. religions, just like people, want to survive. People in the church, are still people. They are surviving, and maybe thriving, off of reading their favorite book and talking about it. That sounds like a pretty fun and easy life to me, maybe do some good here and there for someone less fortunate too. But hey, I'm no prophet.

5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
Almost no argument with this one, your mom and dad did a lot of shit to bring you into this earth, and they are people just like you and I, who raised you and taught you. This is a good rule. The intentions are good. One thing in the Bible I like.
6“You shall not murder."
This is another one I like, plain and simple. No explanation needed either.... I kind of wonder why? "Hey God... Why shouldn't we murder", God -"Really? That's the dumbest question ever. Would you want to be killed? For any reason? Why Kill someone? We are smart, we can talk things out and negotiate and not resort to such irrational violence." That sounds like a good reason. It didn't take my belief in a god to figure that one out, it took my belief in history and that I know, if I am killed, I will cease to exist in this world. After that... well I don't know for sure, or at all, but I would like to think I get another go. Maybe somewhere better, but hey I cannot prove that. Neither can you, so let's worry about the lives we have here today.
7 “You shall not commit adultery.
This one, is also not a hard thing to think. Adultery - "Voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person, and a person who is not his or her spouse". I am not saying adultery is the worst thing ever, or a good thing either, but if my loved one, someone I love and who I thinks loves me back, and we made a promise to stick with one another, broke that promise, I would be pretty pissed. It's a shitty thing to do. Easy as that. I can find that out on my own, by looking at other people, because we can do that now. We have a lot of examples of "what happens when I do this" that is not available back then, and instead the answers to those "what happens when I do this" questions are answered by "God". It makes sense to me that people believe that, but we have a shitload of information today, why do we need this god telling us how to live? Can't we figure this out by looking at history and facts? Which apparently was not around when these commandments were written, as these were allegedly the first writings?

8 You shall not steal.
Another one I can't argue with. I don't want my stuff, the stuff that I worked for and paid for with my labor, to be taken by some asshole. Now question is, what is the intention of the stealer? If you are stealing to survive, because that is your only option, then I am still mad at you but after talking with you, I will not hate you as much as I hate someone who is stealing for fun, or just to get ahead. Or to get revenge, or any other motive. People want to survive it is human nature. People also want to become powerful, that is human nature. But power, should be built, not stolen. You become powerful by doing, maybe stealing something will help you out and give you more "power" in objects, but it is not a great habit or mentality to get into. 1) it is dangerous, 2) if you don't feel like a dick for stealing, who are you? Yes it is somewhat easy to steal from people you cannot see or don't know, but I have stolen a thing or 2 in my life. When I know who i stole it from i feel bad, if I don't know who it was i don't feel as bad, and if I think I am stealing from a rich person, I usually have no guilt at all. Why don't i have guilt from stealing from the rich? Well I think I should, but in the system I have come to learn, the rich are rich and are that way for finding a way to do it and working the system. The rich have enough as it is, and are getting tax cuts while poor people are struggling to get by. Your life is made minimally harder from stealing from you, if you are rich. Oh I stole $100 from a man making $1,000,000 a year? He'll be just fine, do the same thing to a man making $40,000 a year, well now I feel like an ass. This doesn't make stealing right, but morally speaking, stealing from the rich is not the worst thing you can do. But look, if you are that rich person, do you want to be stolen from? Hell no, but even if something is stolen, you are rich. You have money to replace that item or whatever, you'll be fine. Some people don't have that, so the damage is minimal but it is overall a good rule to live by, and if everyone lived by it this world would be a great place.
9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

I don't know about you, but I speak English. Let's get the meaning of this in terms we can all objectively agree with and understand.
To me, first and foremost, it means you should not lie. Don't say your neighbor did something when they did not. Hmmmmm why not do that? Well in life, I have learned that when I get accused of something I did not do, it is A) very hard to give enough evidence to defend yourself, so sometimes the accusation sticks and B) it is not a good situation to be in. Why make life harder for other people? We are all people here, just trying to survive, reproduce, and have some fun along the way. We still cannot objectively find a thing that is "fun" for everyone and every culture, but I bet we could if we tried. Talking is pretty fun, lets talk. So why not lie? Well lying is the death of truth. When you say something happened, it could of happened, because you said it did. Nobody can see exactly what you saw unless it is still there. So good job bible, I like this one too, but once again I did not need you telling me this shit to figure it out. I have not been religious my whole life and yet, I can live morally. Maybe its because of the laws we have in place now right? Well we did separate church and state, but not completely. We do follow a lot of Christian laws, the good ones, the ones I liked in these commandments. Maybe there's a reason why we refined it. Because the first one was WRONG, not completely but somewhat. It is not bad to be wrong, it is not good either but if you are wrong, submit to facts. Facts is what we can prove, and can be proven again.
10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.”
Covet - "Yearn to possess or have something". Human nature says we want what we cannot have, so this kind of goes against human nature. But it is a good rule to live by, as if you are so jealous of your neighbor, for whatever reason, you are more prone to take action to acquire what he has. Basically, don't be jealous. Be happy with what you've got. If your neighbor has "better stuff" well good for him, worry about making your life better because you always can. I feel like eventually, in life, we all just settle with a set level of growth or happiness we come to get comfortable in. For instance, when I was in high school, all I did was smoke weed and play video games. I was comfortable. It was pretty fun looking back, but I was not growing. I was in a zone of happiness but I was jealous of the people that were going out, having parties, talking to hot girls. I was. I came to college, and I decided I wanted to be more like them. Well I quickly learned that to do that, I will have to put myself in uncomfortable situations, as I will get more comfortable over time in those situations. Not only that, but I found out that to grow, I had to stop hating myself for "not being better" then some other guy. I am me, I can never change that, and I will grow, to become a great human being, but I cannot waste my time and energy being jealous when I can use my time and energy to make my life better.

Once again, debate me on all of this, I would love to hear it and see if what anyone else can say, is more logical then what I have to say. I have personal experiences yes, that I learned from, and know are true. Every book you read, every post on the internet you read, you have to take in with a grain of salt. SOMEONE ELSE wrote that, and all people, even if they try really hard not to be, are biased. And the further back you go in history, the more salt you should take with everything you read. The ten commandments are reported to be the oldest readable text in the world. That is a fact, or an alleged fact because we haven't found anything older. But does that make them wholly right? Science says, and they can prove this, I can probably prove it if I studied up (which I am working on) that the world is 14 billion years old, and that the universe is still expanding. I know enough about geology to say that makes sense. How could this all of just happened, 6000 years ago? We found dinosaur remains, when the hell were those around? Way before people. So the dinosaurs existed on this world, before this world even existed? That is quite perplexing. I have seen and held dinosaur bones, this is not fake, I doubt anybody at all decided to conceive of the thought of dinosaurs, and then make all of these fake bones and hide them around the world. It is possible that it could of happened like that, but look at all the evidence we have for the existence of dinosaurs, weigh it against the evidence for the bullshit theory I just made.... which one has more weight? It does not take a genius to figure this out. I do not want to destroy religion as a thought, I want to destroy it as an institution. It has been the cause for evil, just like many other things, and the fact that people believe in these books and spend their whole lives' devoted to them is just crazy to me. The crusades were PURELY a religious war. Take the religious difference out of the equation, and the only thing dividing these people's is how they looked and how they talked. Should we really fight over looking and speaking differently? No. Why fight over the religious questions? The main questions that religion answers. "Why are we here? Who created us? How did this Earth come to be? And what happens when we die?". Well I cannot answer all of these, but I can give you my spin on it all.

Why are we here?
I cannot answer this for everyone, but I can say why I am here. I am here to have a good time, and to eat, and to reproduce, and to be successful in whatever I want to do. I want to be a standup comedian, Like Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, or John Oliver, guys who I both like to watch for the comedy and for the rational thought they feed me. Yes I surround myself with people who think like me, but when I see someone who does not I do not think they are completely wrong, and evil for maybe being wrong. I want to know, why they think like that. And for most people, in my age, your parents kind of chose your beliefs for you, and their parents did for them and so on. So your existence is what you make of it, look at what people have done to make this place better. We can do more of that, because I know many people do not have it as good as I do, and if I had as much money as Donald Trump I would do something about it. I would still live comfortably yes, because it would be my money, and hopefully I made it morally, but I would give anything else to help other people. Not just handouts either.

Who Created us?
Great question, all I know is who created me. My parents did, through sex. But who created our species though? Did someone really have to create us? I get that this place is designed, somehow, probably by something, but what if the answer is just nature? This all happened and that's just how it goes. How is that a bad answer? It gives me comfort, maybe if we study it enough we will find out but we have not come to a consensus yet. It is not a fact that there is a god, it is a belief. There is a reason why there are thousands of religions out there. People made up religion as an institution, and maybe it was rooted with good intentions but it has turned into a real shit show. So the way I see it, with all these religions, there are 3 options.
1). All of them are right
-not really possible, because a striking amount of them conflict, and say "I am the one god" or something like that, well you'd think god would be smart enough to make sure everyone was on the same page about him. If I was a god, and oh man what a possibility right? I was one in a video game lol. But if I was a god, I would definitely want people to not fight over whether I exist or not, or who is right. It is not rational, and if god made this Earth the way it is, a very rational place where we have technology and invention, then why couldn't he make that rational decision? IT does not add up. If just one religion is wrong, then all are wrong. Scientology? Yea sounds like some crazy bullshit but if you look at all religions from that third-person perspective, it is about as crazy as a lot of the mainstream ones.
2). One of them is right
Ok... Which one, nobody will give in. Every believing person will say that theirs is, it is in human nature to think you're right, so that makes sense. Prove to me your religion is right, with facts, not your beliefs. All of them have things that I think, are bullshit, based on logic. The only way people have tried to prove theirs is more right then another religion, is by killing people who don't think like them, or torturing them until they submit to their religion. The Crusades, the inquisition are great examples that are decently documented and well known. You did evil to another because of their different beliefs. That to me proves your religion is not right, and that is enough for me. I know proving this to other people is going to be a tough battle, but hey that's logic. I want to know the facts. If just one person died because a Christian Crusader wanted a non-christian to convert, and because that non-christian didn't want to as he/she has their own beliefs, that follow a similar moral code, then Christianity, who bases its morals off of NOT KILLING PEOPLE, is not a logical thing to believe in. It gives people hope and answers yes, but seriously though, look at the things that have happened. We don't need to figure out what happened in the past, we need to figure out what to do now and to make the future better, and fighting over religious differences has not gotten shit done in the past, it will only produce more of the same in the future. As history has told.

3). None of them are right
What I believe. Because I do not have enough evidence myself to believe in one. You say god existed 2000 or 4000 or 6000 years ago? Cool, must of been fun. I am here now, I know this, that is a fact. What happened before me gets blurrier and blurrier as you go back in time, and the first things we can really see are ruins of really old stuff or the first writings. Because that is logical, we know, for a fact, that we had to exist back then for these things to have been made, because no other known animal has proven capable of doing what we know we are capable of. But science, and studying has at least some answers. The world is much older then any holy book says. The guys writing the holy book gave it their best guess, for the time it was a logical guess, but if you are going to say that these holy books are gods word, or the son of gods word, shouldn't he know the legitimate truth? Why would he lie to us about such a small detail? That is the basis of my anti-religion argument, because it is a fact that conflicts with a belief, that many think is a fact, and thus think science is false. Try and prove science false, go ahead. You have a book written 2000-4000 years ago, and we have that too, along with all of the stuff we have done and documented since then. We have more evidence then you do, you were not there when this shit happened so why do you think it did?

My theory on the creation of religion, an institution, goes as follows.
Men, evolved from apes, and started to use tools to make life easier. And as life got easier, it got better, and civilizations formed, and grew, and people got better at what they did. People got so good at surviving, we were thriving, and then had time to do fun things, like talk, or create things that we don't NEED to survive, but we want because we think they are good. And at some point, somebody thought of the all important questions "Why are we here? Who created us? How did this Earth come to be? And what happens when we die?". All amazing questions, questions I'd ask my friends when we were high, just thinking about life. And guess what happened? Nobody had an answer, not a real answer. Nobody could honestly and truthfully give them an answer for all of those. Well this bothered people, because they wanted to find these things out. And this motivated them to start looking for these answers. Well eventually one day, 1 guy said he knows the answers. 1 guy, could of been a total dickhead but apparently he's pretty cool. And he said something like "We are here to serve god, God Created us, God Created the Earth, And when we die, we go to gods home and we can meet him". And that was a pretty good answer. To me, that gives me hope. Like Who is this god fella? I want to meet him. And the man went on to say how cool he was, and how great he was, and what not. People were baffled. "How do you know this" asked his friends, and the man replied "Oh yea, i've talked to him... in my dreams or something, at night i just sit there and talk to the sky". And the people believed him, because lying was, well a dick move. Would you want to be lied to? No thanks. But even if this is a true thing, even if this man did talk to god, what happens next is not so great. See in life, shit tends to hit the fan. And back then, not everything that was possible to go wrong was known yet. And when something, thought impossible, happened, or went wrong, people wanted an explanation. God was the easiest thing to attribute to why the crops didnt grow this year, or why somebody died randomly. And people said, but wait, "if God is awesome and all of that, why is he to blame for all of this?" and the man who spoke for god kind of had to backtrack and say "yea he's kind of a dick sometimes, if you don't believe in him, he gets jealous, everybody better believe in him, and come to this meeting we have where I am going to explain to you what god told me" And people were like "Cool". Well the guy explained god, the best he could, and explained everything logical that he knew so far, and every answer he did not know, he made something up, something that would seem at least somewhat logical at the time, and also things that would help himself grow and prosper. He did not want to hurt anybody, he thought he was helping people out, and he kind of was, but the first sin he committed here was lying. And this, is where I think "sin" or "evil" as I will call it, begins. Maybe he really thought he was able to talk to an almighty being, I don't know if thats true but I know I cannot do that, what makes him different then me? was he a human? yes. Ok no difference. But yes he explains all of this to the people, but not all of the people heard what he had to say. So he did another speech, mostly the same stuff with some small differences, because it is almost impossible to tell the same story twice, exactly as it was the first time, especially when it is a long story. But still not all the people heard him, so he was kind of in a tough spot, he could either give another speech, which no doubt he would have to give again, or he could make the information in the speech accessible for his whole people. But how?.... How?.... Oh we could... do whatever he did but the answer is writing, this is the invention of writing, why the first writing we have is a text. It makes sense, this whole story sounds like many religions, and I completely made it up, and you cannot argue that this wasn't possible. You can say this was not true, and I will agree with you, because I was not here to witness it but you cannot say that this is completely not a possibility for how it all happened. But yes, he created writing, and wrote it all down. Now the people were aptly satisfied. Things returned to normal, and the man now felt like he was important, he was a leader. But after he wrote the book, people liked the book more then they wanted to talk to him about the stuff in the book. He was, in a way, jealous of the book he had written, and wish he had the spotlight, because we all want to have someone pay attention to us, it is a form of love and we all want love. Well, to remedy his interest and keep this situation kosher, he decided to say that "wait wait wait, you're not getting it, some of you cant even read, because I just invented writing and it takes a while to learn how to read if I just invented writing, I know this stuff, so every week I will give a little lecture on the bible, free of charge! Go ahead and come, hope to see ya'll there". And the people thought that this was a great idea, because more or less, it was. So after a long week of farming, the day of the lecture came out and everyone got their daily dose of the book. Well when everybody left, the man felt good about himself but also like he did some work, and should get rewarded. He didn't want to ask for a reward though, not outright. So these lectures, they took place outside in a large common area, well he decided that in order to make things more comfortable for these lectures, they should be inside, in a big "temple" that a good portion of us could get in, possibly all if that is possible. And the people agreed, sounds good to them, they get to listen to the lecture in a nicer place. Benefits for benefits. Well as time continued to progress, and the worship of the book became popular in this society, people began to explore more and more, out into places they have never seen before, and meet people they have never seen. These people, looked maybe a little different, not too much, maybe spoke a different language, but were definitely not in their civilization. They talked, or communicated somehow, and things were going great, people are pretty alike, we all eat food and drink water and want to reproduce, it really is quite amazing. But 1 simple difference angered the 2 men, they believed in 2 different books. They can both attest, because they know that their was right, because they witnessed it, and they will not give in if they know they are right. It makes sense to now, because if you know you are right, well why give in? It frustrated them so, and in their teachings, they learned that if you don't believe what I believe, you will get punished. This is how the first "holy war" started, or could of started, very easily. And 2 whole generations later, the civilizations, doubling in size atleast, were still not on good terms. And now there was virtually nobody alive that witnessed the book being made. people alive in these civilizations now, heard it from their parents and fellow people in the civilization, and saw the book, but never, once, did any of them see the god that is written about in the book. But they sure want to. So the 2 civilizations, well they have been talking and both books are kind of relatable, but still different. So they just kind of let each other be, as "thou shall not kill" is a key rule in both religions. Well another civilization makes its presence known, and they have a completely different religion, with many gods and things of that sort. "Clearly they are not like us" says the other 2 civilizations. So what do they do now? Well at one point, a mix up of translation occurs between the new civilization that just came, and the first one, and the first civilization feels threatened. What do they do? They attack first, as it is smart to do so. If you are attacked, odds are you are only so prepared to be attacked. The attacker usually prepares for the attack, it is smart to do so, as an unprepared attack is how you lose a battle. Anyway, the third civilization gets completely taken over, all of their stuff taken back to civilization 1. And civilization 1, doesn't think what they did is that wrong. Why? Because God said they could... or kind of, like one rule said they were bad but one rule says don't kill... it's a tie, but look at all this stuff we got!?! How was that a bad thing? We would totally take over another civilization like that if we could, and look God isn't punishing us, clearly we are in the right.

This story is completely made up, in my mind and mine alone, but as far as a historical account for the creation of religion, how close am I? These are not facts at all, but if you compare them to the facts we know it makes a pretty good educated guess for it. And this mentality that was created by religion, has caused people to hate each other for simple beliefs.
If religion started anything like this, is it still a rational thought to believe in it?

"Rationality" is not a

"Rationality" is not a concept theists grasp all too well. And, I hate to break it to you, but pointing all those things out about the ten commandments is a pointless endeavour. We already know the ten commandments are old, archaic, and useless. We all know the Bible is about the most immoral and unreliebal book you can get your hands on (any book with Ken Hams hand in its creation runs a close second) We all know that the contradictions it contains are too numerous to allow it any kind of merit in literature. None of this is a secret. The only thing is that people choose their own fanciful notions over intelligence and truth. I can't remember exactly who said it, but I think this quote about sums it up. "Religion was most likely created when the first con-man met the first gullible idiot." That and, probability wise, the existence of a god is highly unlikely, if not down right impossible. So really, all this religion bs is already flogging a dead horse. Most people just refuse to acknowledge the horse as dead.

A lengthy but well reasoned

A lengthy but well reasoned series of arguments. I have ADD and I am old. So life is short and brevity is a virtue . Allow me to summarize all the worthwhile morality in the Old and New Testament : Be nice!

We do need more humorists in the world today . Don't forget about the older ones like George Carlin.

After noting what chimp said

After noting what chimp said I am re evaluating my response to what you said. I still think of it as beating a dead horse, but as chimp said your arguments are well reasoned. However, I don't think I need old, archaic outlines to tell me to be nice.

Correct, it is old and

Correct, it is old and archaic and not important. I can look at history and my own life's experiences and how things in the world happen, and have happened to reason that it is more beneficial for me, and all of us, to be nice and treat each other with respect.

First of all congrats on

First of all congrats on posting one of the longest post that I have ever read....too long.
You need to understand that goodness/morality comes from society and is ever changing. It doesn't come from religion or a bible.
Also I'm sure the best thing that you can do for your family is to be a successful good person. That would be a gift that keeps on giving and your parents can take great satisfaction from.
As far as the question of life, please understand that it isn't a question at all. We know how we came to be scientifically and there is no need to wonder why. Any explanation as to why we came to be is pure speculation and the answers offered are lies that only benefit those who offer such an answer.
You are young and though you have "seen some shit" you can't have seen enough. I'm 58 and I have "seen some shit", but still haven't seen enough. I have been all over the world, met many different types of people, and still haven't seen enough. The great ordeal of humankind is learning and experiencing.
I love to play basketball. What is great about it is the diversity of people you play. In Houston I use to play at a park where a homeless black man in his 60's totally dominated the court. He played barefooted. Astonishing! He was very wise. He told us remarkable stories of the experiences in his life. You can glean valuable information from the most obscure people. Don't dismiss anyone unless they prove that they should be dismissed. Homeless doesn't mean stupid, it only means unfortunate. Rich doesn't mean smart, it only means fortunate.
I for one don't want to meet myself. I think what you are actually talking about when you say that you want to meet yourself, is that you need to understand who you really are. We all want that. Some of us never achieve that goal. If you get all wrapped up in that quest, you'll miss the world. You can take a step back and see a larger picture that will give you perspective. The greatest people that ever lived were able to see the big picture.

I pointed out that his post

I pointed out that his post was valuable. I also pointed out that at his age he needs to step back and look at the big picture. Nothing negative, nothing derogatory.

I understand that, and what

I understand that, and what you pointed out actually changed my view on the issue. When i mentioned disagreements, I wasn't talking about any one subject in particular.

Oh, and welcome to/welcome back to? The forums.

@mykcob4 I agree with what

@mykcob4 I agree with what you said as well. Yes that was a long post, I should of edited it before posting it, and if you read it all expecting something amazing, you might of wasted a few moments. But you made good points too, good points I can't argue with. Your friend who played basketball without shoes, well i would not condone that but hey, he was just fine doing that. Maybe some long term damage over the years, but i am no foot doctor. I want to say that I do see the world, because that is where most of my thoughts come from, the media showing me the world and then the world as I see it. I take everything with a grain of salt however. I really like what you said here, "Don't dismiss anyone unless they prove that they should be dismissed. Homeless doesn't mean stupid, it only means unfortunate. Rich doesn't mean smart, it only means fortunate." If everyone saw it like that, especially in the political or economic world, I think the world would be moving in a better direction.
