That was, uh... intense.
Sorry I couldn't watch it. I'm sure it is important and an issue that needs to be fully explained. I just can't deal with rape as a subject. I abhor anything to do with people being forced against their will. I have the same sick feeling about hunting. Women are victims and should not be shunned or shamed because they have been raped. It is the only instance that I feel that a person should not be allowed to face their accuser because it victimizes the victim again. I just can't fully address this subject. I don't think time should ever run out to actually file an assault charge on rape. I think that rape kits should be kept forever. I have a lot of thoughts about rape. To me, it is the most hideous crime one person could commit. I rank only treason as a worse crime.
It was intense.....
CyberLN - I recommend you watch India's Daughters a BBC documentary. (It was banned in India) It is the story of a Girl the indian Media hailed as Nirbhaya (Fearless), (In India the media cannot disclose the name of the victim) A girl Gangraped on a moving Bus and then Brutally murdered. The documentary is chilling and will give you sleepless nights.
There is so much to learn from discourse on this subject. We seem to find it so much easier to talk about other powerful topics, yet we struggle with this one. I wonder why. And I wonder if that resistance hurts or helps.
Murder is often associated with greed, jealousy, rage, etc. These motives are easy to dismiss as we don't want to justify rage and greed in ourselves either. Rape is so closely associated with sex which we normally consider something we all want and enjoy. Perhaps we don't have the language to discuss rape openly because we are still uncomfortable about discussing healthy sex openly.
That makes a lot of sense, chimp. I suspect that religion bares the lion's share of the blame for our collective discomfort with discussions on this subject.
Religion is also partly to blame for the justification of rape.
Rape!
Rape is all about power. A man rapes because of thoughts in his head of inadequacies. By raping a person he regains his male status his power his dominance. Gang rape is really about one person that leads the rape asserting his/her dominance.
Most serial rapists are impudent.
Major athletes commit rape. It is the leading segment that commits this crime. Major athletes are in the business of male domination. This segment also leads in spousal abuse and violence against women.
Prison rape is all about dominance not sex. Most inmates that actual rape the same gender inmate don't think that they are gay and probably aren't. Sex is just the act. The emotion is power.
The problem is that society regards rape as a crime of opportunity. "She was asking for it." They wouldn't regard a prostitute that was raped as raped, merely ripped off.
The world needs a cultural change when it comes to rape....a big one.
Rape is rape no matter who commits the crime and who is the victim.
I don't like discussing rape. I think that the whole world has not properly dealt with this issue. There isn't enough care for the victims and there shouldn't be any stigma placed on those victims.
Rape isn't sexual frustration. "He raped her because he wasn't getting any." In the case of husbands raping their wives (which does happen...quite a lot), it is a control issue, not sex.
I don't think pornography manifest rape at all. I do think that rapist watch rape pornography and that will embolden them to commit rape.
Casual sex is just recreation.
People in a committed relationship have bonding sex.
Assaulting someone and forcing sex on them is rape.
