Priest gets 5 years jail for child porn

http://www.newsweek.com/catholic-priest-sentenced-child-pornography-vati...

Monsignor Carlo Capella was a Vatican diplomatic stationed in Washington DC until he was recalled after US authorities reported him for possessing child porn. Apparently he developed these strange desires after arriving in America, so it isn't really his fault. The US asked the Vatican to waive diplomatic immunity so he could be tried there, but of course the Vatican refused. So he'll serve his term in a Vatican jail, whatever that means.

There's also an arrest warrant waiting for him in Canada.

If he'd directly abused children, they'd have just transferred him to another city.

The Vatican is a criminal organization masquerading as a sovereign state. It doesn't deserve to have diplomatic immunity.

"Why, in the 21st century, does the Vatican receive diplomatic immunity? Boils my blood!"

Probably because for centuries any ordinary person who dared oppose them would have had their "blood boiled".

The organisation will remain as long as people are superstitious, and put their superstition ahead of the rights of the individual.

Vatican City has a railway

Vatican City has a railway station - with only one train a week bringing in bonded duty-free goods, a Post Office, a radio station, a pharmacy, a supermarket, a fire brigade, a five-star hotel, and one of the world's most visited museums, but it has no prison - and no dungeons.
The only "cell' they have is a large detention room normally used for pickpockets and the like being transferred to the Italian cops. So it s likely the pervert will have a nice time confined to the precincts of the VC, complete with servants and probably a regular supply of videos.
Punishment for the clergy....

I would reply with my opinion

I would reply with my opinion, but it would get deleted for profanity.

I spend the 3-4 days I week I used to spend in Church fighting this. I just got back from picketing my local bishop & the famous priest speaker published whenever the press wants a quote from the 'moral authority' of the Church. I put a damper in his women's conference.

Sad that the guy is not getting punished for his crime. I wonder if the Vatican has a child porn channel?

Probably, since the

Probably, since the effectively 'legalized' pedophilia 100 years ago in Canon Law. JPII extended the privilege to all religious. Benne Dick added "those who habitually lack the use of reason" to the list of those who could be raped with impunity as a vital PR benefit.

After what I had suffered as

After what I had suffered as a child, it no longer surprises me what those Christians do. It just seems to me that the more power they have in the church, the more likely they are to commit crimes.

Like chimp3 said elsewhere, it makes me blood boil. I feel there are some crimes diplomats should NOT have any immunity from. For me, the list is so long, basically, no diplomat would have any kind of immunity. They should be as accountable to another country's laws as anyone else who visits that country.

I do understand that if that were the case, then no country would send any diplomats to another country.

In this case specifically, the Vatican should have revoked his diplomat status and left him to his own.

Only pure population growth

Only pure population growth sustains the Vatican. If Population growth was flat the last 100 years or so but trends remained the same, the vatican would of lost an enormous amount of power in the last century or 2.

Hopefully this trend of diminishing worship at the altar of vatican greed will continue to diminish, as anyone can look up on the internet: "is god real" and get the real answer in seconds (if they know how to find unbiased information on the web) instead of what all their brainwashed peers say.

I don't see how this man would have profited by holding child porn. What makes the Vatican a criminal organization?

@ Calhais.

@ Calhais.
Not all criminal activity results in, or is intended for profit. By hiding peadophile priests, shifting them about where they could attack yet more children, selling children for adoption,, refusing to turn confessed peadophiles over to the law. Attempting to make victims sign confidentiality agreements then by any reasonable definition the Church to its highest levels is complicit. That makes it a criminal organisation.

@calhais: I don't see how this man would have profited by holding child porn.

It's not a matter of profit. Presumably he paid for the child porn, thereby helping to support an evil industry and create more victims.

The Catholic church has long protected known pedophiles among its priesthood by moving them among different locations. Any law-abiding organization would have handed these scum over to the police. That's organized crime.

The church's number two man, Cardinal Pell, is currently on trial in Australia for related offenses.

Child pron is sold and given

Child porn is sold, and given that is thankfully very hard to create and store, it probably commands a high price. The Vatican has deliberately moved paedophiles, and records in order to avoid them being brought to justice. Also to avoid compensating the victims, and they're still doing it. That makes them a criminal organisation on it's own, though there is much more, like the Albanian nun taking donations from criminal dictators that were stolen from some of the poorest people on the planet, and it disappearing into the Vatican's vaults without trace, while the people in here care were not even given the most basic palliative care, or even basic medical hygiene, many being left to die in pain and squalor. The only lasting evidence of any of the money being spent to build self aggrandizing religious monuments to the order she egotistically had named after her.

As I have likely mentioned

As I have likely mentioned before somewhere on this site, should there ever come a day where I can obtain an official hunting license to go after known child molesters/child rapists, then I would gladly supply my own weapon(s) and ammo for the job. And I would likely make those slimy scumbag kiddie-diddling church officials a top priority. Quoting one of my favorite movies lines, "Forgiveness is between them and their god. I'm just here to arrange the meeting."
