Not Atheist but Agnostic

Hi. My name is Riley. I'm new to the Atheist /Agnostic community. I know this is a place for atheist but i feel like Atheist and Agnostic have a lot in common. And if you disagree with me I would love it if you would tell me why. This is a Debate room after all. I was born into a Christian Family and was baptized as a baby. In my early teen years I started to drift away from Religion. I consider myself Agnostic, but i'm sure one day I will move on to be Atheist. I want to be Religious but unless there is some form of Physical proof of God then I will continue to be Agnostic/Atheist. I would love to hear about your story's of becoming Atheist or Agnostic. And if you have any information to give me I would love to hear it. Have a wonderful day, I hope to hear from y'all soon!

For what it is worth: there

For what it is worth: there are a lot of definitions of atheism and agnosticism flying around out there. In many of them they are not mutually exclusive. Personally I try to refrain from arguing about these definitions, but I thought I should mention it.

Welcome to the site Riley.

Welcome to the site Riley. Agnostics live as if there is no god for the most part. We have that in common.

Well to me agnostic is just

Well to me agnostic is just someone that is either scared from committing to logic or just someone that can never make a decision for whatever reason.
We are all atheist until we have been corrupted by superstition. When you realize that any religious belief is not based on fact, but rather based on a myth, then you can commit to atheism.
I was instructed into christianity as well. So much so that I was not only baptized but also confirmed. I never bought into christianity, but because of my age, community, I was entered into the christian instruction and fed the dogma for years.
The one thing you have to ask yourself is why you are never allowed to question christianity and you are encouraged to question science. Christianity doesn't hold up to scrutiny in any sense.
So for me it was easy to choose to return to the natural state of atheism. We are all born atheist.
BTW "atheist" is a term made up by christians when they made up their god. Atheism is just a label.

"We are all atheist until we have been corrupted by superstition."

LoL, that's the best way to describe it I've heard so far! Absolutely right. (I like that you used the word superstition as well, since this applies to much more than just god belief.)

I consider myself both. To

I consider myself both. To me, the words a/theism are about belief and a/gnostic are about knowledge. I do not believe in god(s) and I have no way of knowing it/they exist.

Welcome to the site.

Just as CyberLN writes, I too consider myself both atheist and agnostic.

I'm an atheist: I lack belief in gods, since there is no evidence of any kind for their existence.

I'm an agnostic: Because it's impossible to know that a god does not exists.
Note: This depends on the definition of god. If the god in question is the literally interpreted biblical god, omnipotence alone is enough to know that such a god cannot exist. If the god in question is a deistic type of god, we simply cannot know.
