New portrait of Christ

This is Shoko Asahara, former leader of the Aum Shinrikyo cult. He cobbled together a religion out of fragments of Taoism, yoga, and Christianity and eventually declared himself to be Christ. While forbidding his disciples from having sex, he personally "initiated" countless female followers into the cult.

In 2004 he was sentenced to death for 27 counts of murder, including 13 counts relating to the Tokyo subway sarin gas attack. Although he professes to despise modern society and its laws, he's used every piece of legal trickery available to avoid being sent back to heaven at the end of a rope. The last avenue of appeal now appears to have been closed, and he could find his neck in a noose any time soon. His addled followers will probably worship him as a martyred messiah.

How bad do religious leaders have to be before their followers will turn away in disgust and disillusion?

NOT once in the bible do you

NOT once in the bible do you here OF Jesus acting in that way. Jesus was most of the time peaceful The new testament doesn`t address his sexual proclivities as far as I know he was holy and without sin. I don`t know here what your trying to convey about Christ and Christianity in general by your comparisons .Jesus has 2.6 billion followers world wide. I t is possible somewhere among the populace that someone acts contrary to the basic Christian message. But that very well maybe the exception rather then the norm.

I think you missed the point AB. Shoko Asahara took bits from several religions and mixed them together to create something both compelling and evil. History shows that every religion has that potential. It doesn't matter an iota what Jesus did or didn't do. All that matters is what religious leaders can convince their daft followers to believe.

All the big religions have holocausts, Crusades, mass rape, child molestation and other horrors haunting their shadows. Creating a religion and unleashing it on the world to be used by evil, charismatic men is a crime against humanity.

While it is true that Jesus

While it is true that Jesus in the bible was able to restrain his violent tendencies much of the time, he did say that he would torture most of humanity for failing to follow him.
