Nature doesn't giver a shit so why should I?

Why should I appreciate things if I am refused to be appreciated by nature? If nature doesn't give a shit why should I?
Or is that you people are telling me "love life even if life doesn't love you back"? Because either way, that's bullshit.

You expect nature to

You expect nature to appreciate you?

You really need to stop anthropomorphizing things. (definition: transitive verb; "the attribution of human characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object.")

You expect life to love you back? Again, stop anthropomorphizing things.

You are right though it is bullshit. Bullshit to in anyway expect nature or life to appreciate and love you.
You get love and appreciation from people, hopefully from your parents and immediate family. You can also find friends and partners that can do the same. Get a highly intelligent pet capable of emotion and connection, and you can even get it from a pet. But from nature? From "life" ?

I suppose if you really want, you can yell at the nearest visible large rock you can find: "LOVE ME! APPRECIATE ME!" nothing to stop you from doing that. But if you actually expect love and appreciation from that rock, I suggest you find a good psychologist right away. If that person can't help, then a psychiatrist may be needed to give you meds to dull out your mind (all though I do not particularly recommend the prescription drug route, lots of folks lose their lives over that.)

To paraphrase LogicFTW, you

To paraphrase LogicFTW, you get love from people, not nature.
Its like complaining that you cannot buy underpants in a hardware store.

Who says you have to give a

Who says you have to give a shit? I don't give a shit and you don't have to either.

Wanna know what else doesn't give a shit?

A malaria mosquito who managed to kill 227 newborn infants today.

Well, you could just not give

Well, you could just not give a shit. I don't. I care about people, not trees. I care about things with consciousness. I don't want things to suffer, sure, but I don't care if things die. Death is part of life. Things must die to perpetuate life. Cruelty is not part of that circle of life. Cruelty is reserved for humans and cats. Unlike cats, humans can choose to avoid this cruelty by acting on our empathy for living things.

I strive to reduce the suffering of others, and often times the best way to do this is to stop emphasizing life as being more important than wellbeing. I would much rather kill a terminally ill animal than keep it alive on the off chance I could save it. So I don't care if humans destroy the planet or wipe out all life. Life will re-emerge just like it did the first time. I do care that things suffer for no good reason. I want to prevent that, because suffering is unnecessary. Death is necessary; pain is not. It's an interesting sort of nihilism, I suppose.

This is most of the reason I am pro-choice, pro-healthcare, and pro-assisted suicide. I want suffering to be minimized. Minimizing death is not part of my agenda, with the exception of violent crime. Violence is cruel and unnecessary, so we should work to reduce it.

To elaborate on my earlier point, I don't care about trees. I do, but not because we're killing trees, because we're killing people. Destroying ecosystems damages the quality of life for humans too. If we kill the trees, poison the water, kill the animals, and pollute the air, we harm ourselves. So I do want green energy and I do want overfishing to stop, but not for nature's sake. For ours.

Just my two cents. Do with it as you will.

@Michael: Nature doesn't

@Michael: Nature doesn't giver a shit so why should I?

Because you can. Nature can't. Nature just is. It has no capacity to care.

Hey there again, Michael.

Hey there again, Michael. Glad you are still with us. Asking questions is always a good thing to do. It is a great way to learn and figure out things that are bugging you. The trick, of course, is to pay attention to the answers you get. Here is an answer for you concerning nature...

Imagine you are somehow transported out into the middle of a desert with absolutely nothing but the clothes on your back. No food. No water. No cell phone. No emergency supplies of any type. No other people or towns or conveniences for hundreds of miles in any direction. Simply just YOU and NATURE. Do you think the sun will look down upon you and go, "Oh, my. Look at that unfortunate soul. I will now draw in a multitude of rain clouds to block my heat and send him water so that he does not go thirsty or become ill from exposure." Would you expect the smaller creatures buried in the sand will look out of their shelters and go, "Oh, look! There is a poor human about to starve! Let us all go to him and sacrifice ourselves so that he will not starve to death." Uh, yeah, not gonna happen. If anything, those little creatures will be waiting on you to collapse so that they can have a feast dining on your still breathing body.

Similar scenario, you are out in the middle of the ocean wearing nothing but your swim trunks, and you are being kept afloat by a life vest. No dry land for hundreds of miles in any direction. Again, just you and nature. Hate to break the news to you, pal, but you are no longer at the top of the food chain in that situation. Do you think a shark is going to come along and see you and think, "Well, gee, I am really, really hungry, but that is Michael. He's a human. It would be wrong for me to eat HIM." Do you think the ocean is going to go, "Oh, poor guy. Perhaps I could make the area of water directly around him non-salty so that he will not die of thirst. Oh, and just to be extra nice, I could send him a daily supply of fish and make them easy for him to catch so he will have food. And - hey, what the heck - I can adjust my currents to get him to an inhabited island as quickly as possible." I'm pretty sure you can see the absurdity of both of those scenarios.

Do you honestly think for a single second that nature owes you any protection or sympathy whatsoever? Buddy, the harsh truth of the matter is nature is not even aware of your presence. Nature does not care, because nature CANNOT care. You are trying to attribute human traits and characteristics to a non-entity. You might as well try to say your favorite recliner get jealous when it sees you sitting on your couch. It is ridiculous. That is about the clearest way I know how to explain it. And in regards to why YOU should or should not care.... Well, like it or not,... That decision is totally up to you. Nobody else can tell you what you should or shouldn't care about or why. That is simply the cold hard truth, Michael.

I can't help but think you

I can't help but think you typed "nature", but mean "God", Michael. If I'm right, God can't care because there is no god. If you really mean nature, nature can't care because it isn't an entity- it's the sum of a huge collection of awe inspiring parts.

Why do you keep phrasing

Why do you keep phrasing questions as if the truth and facts are optional?

Don't give a shit about life or value it, that's your choice, either way nature is entirely unaware you exist.

Personally I'd find life pretty unbearable if everyone thought as you do, so why would you want life to be unbearable?

Cognostic's picture
@Sheldon "Nature doesn't

@Michael@ "Nature doesn't giver a shit so why should I?"

You shouldn't!!!
There are no "shoulds." Don't should on yourself. You are attributing the human characteristic of care to a process "Nature."

You either want to appreciate things around you or you do not. Nature is simply there. When you assert "Nature does not give a shit." it is like saying "fire" does not give a shit. Of course it doesn't. It is a process, like life. It exists as long as it perpetuates itself by consuming fuel. When the fuel is gone the fire goes away. Life/nature is a process that feeds on life. (Life feeds on life like fire feeds on wood). When there is no more fuel it too will go away. "Giving a shit." is a human cognitive characteristic. It has nothing to do with nature, fire, life, or any other natural process.

So, you have to ask yourself, given that you have this life, will you be the kind of person that cares about his or her life or the kind of person that does not give a damn? It's only a matter of choice. The choice you make determines the sort of person you will be.

As expressed by others,

As expressed by others, nature doesn't care, nature just exists.

But I like nature, it's my friend. Nature protects us from harmful UV radiation, provides oxygen, water, and all the ingredients necessary for beer.
