Greetings everyone,
I personally think morality was not created by any god. Where do you guys think morality comes from?
Thanks in advance for participating.

Please read the archives. The subject has been exhaustively covered. Logically morality comes from society whatever that society may be.
THE GOLDEN RULE
Golden Rule? There is no golden rule. All there is is a society as large or finite as you want to define it. That society defines morality. And that morality is dynamic. It changes with the whim of the society. Lion prides have morality for crying out loud. Morality is as subjective as the society that dictates them.
@mykcob4: Then, Don't you think there're moral points common to all cultures and societies?
I should've elaborated. The golden rule is where I wish people would draw their morals from. Mykcob4 please forgive my vague reponse. I'm just tired of morality threads.
My morality comes from treating others as I want to be treated.
Empathy
@Subi0991atheus: The other day, in this same forum, I told someone that there're three things that disgust every human being -as long as the human being isn't sick-, belonging to the culture that belongs: incest, cannibalism and murder. Obviously these behaviors can be given according to the circumstances, from cannibalism in case of extreme hunger, to incest in case of absolute isolation, murder also depends of circumstances, as James Ellroy says, we're all capable of murder and some do it great, But it seems that, psychologically, repeat, unless we're sick, there's a certain minimum moral imbued in our genes of social animals. Yes.
@SBMontero I agree. I think we all have an evolutionary framework for morality. The rest is shaped by one's culture.
@SBMontero
Like I said morality comes from the society. In some cultures, cannibalism was a sacred right. So it wasn't disgusting to those people.
@mykcob4: Most societies that practiced cannibalism did so within certain ritual parameters, eat the dead and/or, in case of war, ingest the enemy, or certain anatomical parts, can be said the same about human sacrifices in Central and South America, Scandinavia, northern Russia, or mainland China. Does that mean that human sacrifice, or cannibalism, was allowed out of those rites? No.
There're anthropological anomalies, but it's consistent. In some islands of Indonesia the cannibalism by long periods of hunger and isolation changed to hunting parties of human beings in other islands,
These three moral points, repugnance to incest, cannibalism and murder, are imbued to us as social beings, we aren't social beings because of society, we're social beings by genetics, like all primates.
It simply doesn't matter if we are social beings by society or genetics. the fact is that all morality comes from society. I don't believe that there are specific moral points. I believe that society dictates what is accepted and what is not.
In fact, I think we are social beings due to both genetics and society (environment). Like I said before, we have a moral framework through genetics, and the details are shaped by society.
All gods are human made. All religious morality is human made. There is nothing stopping me , an atheist, from borrowing from any man made religion and incorporating their precepts into my world view! Good Samaritan? Good story! It is all based on human imagination anyway.
@chimp3 I agree. Religious morality and gods seem to be a human constructions. The thing now, is how do we make others understand this seems to be the most likely case? What is the most effective way to do so? But yes, I agree with your point of view.
I am not here to make anybody do anything.
I think we can all agree that morality is sense of right and wrong. This sense can come from religion or culture. I think that morality isn't independent from God, but neither is it dependent. Morality can come from a supernatural belief, but it doesn't have to.
@unknown
Can you further clarify how morality isn't independent of God, but neither dependent? I didn't understood you.
hia, I nthink morality derives from social norms,That`s why you see that how people behave in one year differ from the next,say take gay marriage or lgbty rights they all evolved over years of pain staking effort, what was not accepted a few years ago legally is now the norm. At one time mankind was very against these life styles but now has changed a lot.Where we are headed for no one really can tell,but you will evolve in ethics and morals.
@non theist
Thank you for your response. I have notice that progression as well. As time passes, we learn more how to be fair.
It comes from us. It comes from the application of reason and empathy. I don't think it comes from a celestial sky daddy
