If a child asks her parent

If a child asks her parent for a candy bar for dinner, and the parent does not give the child the candy. That would be an answer.

But that is not a prayer.

But that is not a prayer.

Hey! An atheist asks a theist to start making sense and he just can't do it. That would be an answer also.

So all prayers are answered?

You seem to reject the study because god does not answer all prayers, then you agree that no is also an answer.

For arguments sake, if god is real his 'yes' answers are statistically indistinguishable from no prayer in the framework of this study. And for those that were worse off when prayed for it seems that he not only said 'no' but they were disadvantaged.

Apologies for maybe going off topic.

edit: for apology

I suppose you’d have to

I suppose you’d have to define worse off. An argument could be made that in the Christian view of Heaven being a place where one is present with God after death. Perhaps the ones that did not die were worse off. If God and Heaven do exist and souls have never ending life death is merely a location change.

AJ777: "Heaven being a place where one is present with God after death."

And what exactly are you going to be doing for eternity?

Me. I'd rather have the finality of death. I do not think it is a reward to be on one's knees and bowing to tyrannical totalitarian despotic demon crying "Holy, holy, holy is our lord" for the rest of eternity.

God loves you so much that he

God loves you so much that he won’t force you into Heaven against your will. If you desire God you can know and enjoy Him and His good things forever, if you don’t desire God you can choose to be separated from Him. Your preference does not change reality.

And have you ever thought

And have you ever thought about how yours is mentally distorted by your beliefs? So, you wish to spend eternity on your knees, bowing, and crying, "Holy, holy, holy is our lord" to a demented, despotic tyrant?

Have fun.

If a pharmaceutical company

If a pharmaceutical company produced a pill that worked as often as prayer does, nobody would ever buy it.

Unless they lie about it, and more then once a drug company has been busted for doing just that, lying about the results of the effectiveness of their drugs...

A big advertising campaign, toss in some placebo effect and voila a drug company makes millions or billions on a lie.

Precisely why it is up to us

Precisely why it is up to us to understand the implications in the scientific method. It's up to us to know that when they say "9 out of 10 doctors recommend..." that we haven't been given a sample size or been told why 10% don't recommend it. All too often we accept this as actual information when it isn't.

When we abandon the scientific method in favor of how we feel, we are easily conned.
