Well, you'll have that. The pastor is marketing his church and what better way than to take advantage of the event claiming divine use of nature's power to send a message from the heavens? Dude has a future in marketing should propping up religion not provide him his mercedes.

Not installing a lightning rod in Oklahoma? You have to commend their faith.

It is human nature to find

It is human nature to find patterns in things, especially if that pattern reinforces their current ideal.

The counter is to realize that unlikely things happen when given enough chances. There is well over a million "church" like buildings throughout the world unlikely things will happen.

I remember reading about people taking shelter in a church when a tornado was in the area in the great plains of the US somewhere (would not be surprised if it was Oklahoma) The path of the giant tornado went directly over the church, and everyone taking shelter in the church died. I believe this occurred about a decade ago, I am sure I can find it with a few google searches. I am sure everyone hiding in that church thought their god would shelter and save them in a house built to worship him.

I guess god had a mysterious plan for that church and its congregation. Perhaps he needed the land cleared for development.

There's a church in Iceland that was saved from a 1729 lava flow by the prayers of the village priest. It was a true miracle that had nothing to do with the fact that the church was on a hill. In Hawaii, a small catholic church was saved from lava by another miracle, while a protestant church in the same village was destroyed. The miracle in that case was a contractor with a truck. Now that's intelligent design.
