Just read this article interview with pop star Katy Perry. I kissed a Girl song was one of her first hits. I related to her in many of her childhood stories. Christianity kept her away from interacting with LGBT. Her transformation makes me happy. Im not sure if she's atheist but she doesn't subscribe christianity anymore.

She's a great artist.
Great article! Unfortunately, towards the end, she says:
"But Perry’s real energy secret is a daily, 20-minute Transcendental Meditation break, a practice that Russell Brand introduced her to six years ago. “It’s a game-changer,” she insists. “I will feel neuro pathways open, a halo of lights. And I’m so much sharper. I just fire up!”"
I have nothing against meditation, but TM is a religion. It might not have a monotheistic deity, but it does have plenty of supernatural elements and pseudoscience in it.
I will continue to listen to her singing though, I have long since learned not to care about the weird beliefs of artists whose art I enjoy...
Good point, but I have a feeling that a lot of celebs slip those extra words in there to better connect with the readers.
I learned TM about 20 years ago. There was a little bit of ritual involved (gifts of flowers, etc.), but I never heard any religious indoctrination. It was all about learning to switch off all the noise in your head. There's no magic involved in TM, but it was certainly effective in putting me into an altered state of consciousness (technically known as "sleep").
Well Heck, I learned TM over 40 years ago in a non-religious setting and never knew there was any religion involved. Over the years the technique has proved useful to deal with migraines and headaches, and to help me relax and get to sleep at nights. Now that I'm atheist and I suddenly know that TM involves religion, perhaps it will stop working for me.
TM is real meditation like the name says, so it can have positive effects on your life. Like I said, I have nothing against people meditating. I will just paste this bit of text from wikipedia:
"In the 1960s, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi described a paranormal effect that he claimed a significant number of individuals (1% of the people in a given area) practicing the Transcendental Meditation technique (TM) could have on the local environment."

TM sounds wonderful. Now that I'm not afraid of hell Ill try anything :)
Good for her
