The article does not mention if the two scumbags were 'defrocked' or remain priests. I guess it would be too much to expect the Catholic Church to have the integrity to serve up that much justice or decency.
The two lowlifes look set to die in prison. If there is a god it is to be hoped they wont be quartered in a safe privileged section.
@Grinseed
If the church defrocked them, then it admits they were child rapes exist in the church.
So I would still be right, the church doesn't have the integrity to serve up that much justice or decency. No surprise. Hearing the sins of the paedophile, is more important than protecting the mental health and safety of children in their care.
You have the theology mixed.
'Defrocking' is seen as a Catholic 'punishment' and means the Church Admits NOTHING! It usually just turns them loose on the general population with no warning.
They vatican admitted for millennia that pedophilia existed. It is just in the last 100 years that they decided to protect the pedophiles and wrote that into Canon Law. The theology is that a priest is "Ontologically Changed" upon ordination into someone who is next to God and that it can't be undone. So once a priest ALWAYS a priest. It is essentially the same theology of the ordained kings & queens prior to WWI. And of course the previous entity in possession of the vatican proudly proclaimed to the planet that the ONLY requirements for priesthood are - male, breathing, and willing to lie about being celibate.
The Australian canon lawyer and the sociologist published two documents. The first is a legal report entitled “Canon Law – A Systemic Factor in Child Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church.” (Free download from National Catholic Reporter) written for the Australian government. The second is the lay version “Potiphar’s Wife.” (Buy on line for real money). I verified the information with the author of the second book and the legal firm from the movie Spotlight. A third is “Child Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church; An Interpretive Review of the Literature and Public Inquiry Report” another free download through the Center for Global Research; School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, RMIT Both books thoroughly document how the vatican ORDERED the bishops to protect the pedophiles starting 100 years ago.

Xenoview: Better late than never.
It's always too little too late. But it's good to see another Catholic country waking up to the horrors of this global criminal organization.
In my country it's relatively unusual for justice to be done and to be SEEN to be done.
May the victims of those cunts finally find some peace after their decades of suffering . From observation, it is my understanding that people physically or sexually abused as children rarely fully recover
The actions taken against these horrid individuals is something but it is not enough! We can't be happy until the catholic church actually has some integrity and does something to tackle these horrible acts committed by their priests!
My reactionary view is that people who harm children should be killed.
Why yes, I am a survivor of abuse, physical and emotional. Why do you ask?
My standing view is that people who harm children should be killed. The same should be done to any predatory animals threatening the lives of our children. Its an old simian reflex.
I was fortunare enough to grow up around humane adults.

Cranky: HERE HERE! I'm pro death penalty for all sorts of creepy shit and I think the process should be sped up. I have one little caveat. The prosecutors and the judge who sentence an innocent man to prison, as well as the arresting officers and district attorney, all lose their jobs and pensions and may never work in the field of law again. These crimes are serious and if the professionals are simply trying to close a case, play out a personal vendetta, and do not take the time to discover what is real, they do not deserve to be working in the field. An unfortunate byproduct of the American adversarial judicial system is that prosecutes are more concerned with making a case and winning than they are with truth.
Yup.
You've picked my single caveat for the death penalty. I am only able to support it IF the verdict can be guaranteed to be safe .
With child sex abuse cases, especially in my country, the offence(s) could have occurred decades ago. It can be very difficult to obtain a safe conviction.
I have no children. Don't know how I'd react as a parent . I . DID read of a case in the US where a father caught a man abusing his very young child. The father beat the abuser to death. I understand no charges were made.

I can not imagine what would keep me from killing someone who sexually abused, even a child that I knew. 40% of all murders go unsolved. Now, with DNA, they are catching up on some of the old cases. But we know about DNA too. In the Philippines they just take you out to crocodile country and toss you in the river. I assume it is the same in Australia. California is rent a boat for the day and find the sharks. I'm sure there are other creative ways to dispose of a full body without a trace. I liked the movie, Deadwood. "There ain't nothin a pig wont eat."
