The UK Charity Commission has turned down an application for charitable status for the Temple of the Jedi Order. That's mildly amusing. But what's really interesting in this article is the criteria applied. The Commision says that a religion "must have a positive beneficial impact on society in general." A religion must also be focused on "moral improvement" and have "cogency, cohesion, or seriousness" as a belief system.
I can't think of any religions that meet those standards.
What do others think?

Heh, yeah that is a pretty high bar!
I wonder if that commission has approved any other satirical religions? FSM ?
I wonder what religion the commission members are...
I agree that no religion matches those criteria. I know of no religion that is focused on moral improvement and none that are a benefit to any society. Religions are giant cults.
