Is it okay to debate something non-religious here?

I rarely come to go in the debate room and mainly read the blogs. Would it be alright to set a debate topic that is non-religious, like a political or a cultural topic that has no implication in religious matters? I am unsure of the debate culture here. Apologies if this is something that is obvious.

Item 3 of the Forum

Item 3 of the Forum Guidelines says "No unrelated topics", but that doesn't seem to stop people putting up threads about politics, economics, science, technology, etc. Trump is a frequent topic, though I suppose he's god in some people's minds, including his own.

If people think your debate is off-topic or uninteresting, they'll just ignore it and it'll go extinct. If it's interesting, it'll survive and evolve. Like natural selection really.

"No unrelated topics"

"No unrelated topics" - Forum Guidelines.
"We encourage discussion about any and all topics..." - Forum Description.

Yup, just like evolution, full of contradictions lol.

Still fighting against the theory of evolution after all this time. What a waste.

I agree the forum guidelines

I agree the forum guidelines could use some clarity on that rule, although they were trying to keep it short. I believe in the debate boards anything goes as long as it does not turn into attacks, racism or threats.

I think the idea behind "no unrelated topics" is: to have a rule in place where people abuse the idea that they can post anything. And these boards begin to lose their identity as a atheist/theist discussion area, and turns into something else.

The admin/owners of these boards are not interested in being dictators and strictly enforcing all the rules, they are more in place if they are needed and can be pointed to if abuses occur.

Cheers back to you!

Cheers back to you! Philosophy is also related. So is football considering all the Jesus fans who thank him for their petty victories.
