I bet we all had a freak ancestor who was ridiculed for walking upright instead of dragging his knuckles on the ground like a normal ape, until he turned out be a better survivor and hunter/gatherer because of his wider field of vision. Sometimes weird genetic accidents can give an individual a major advantage and end up getting added to the gene pool.
