Here's a cool little excerpt I found on YouTube this morning.

Saw the first 5 minutes of the movie. The arguments used are valid, and I would use them to explain to a 10 year old why I am an atheist. In my opinion it is an useful exercise but not something for adult atheists. As an atheist I will not go from "If there is a god". My dogma is: 'There are no gods"
Depends on the interlocutor. Against an apologist, no. A philosopher, no. But someone with a lesser knowledge of logic or science, perhaps it's arguments like that, that they can follow, that would be most effective.
Watched the video and got a lot of good out of it. Very good points indeed!
I agree. Good video!
"If there is no god" is an argument I use frequently.
Theist: "How do you have a basis for morality if there is no god?"
I like to answer that question with a question. If the person is a Christian I ask: "If there is no god, what happens to the moral teachings of Jesus? What happens to the lesson of the Good Samaritan, " Love one another!", the Golden Rule? What happens to those teachings if there is no god?
It is obvious that if there is no god then the moral teachings theists claim as god dependent become a human creation. The Good Samaritan then becomes a humanist teaching thereby negating the claim that atheists have no moral stronghold. Checkmate!
I like that it is untethered from the normal logical arguments. It's something palatable for more than just theologians and philosophers. I think laymen respond better to it. Not only those from the video, but along that line of reasoning on general.
In the video, Richard Carrier gaves "his" four reasons for not being a Christian, and these are: 1. God is silent 2. God is inert. 3. We have the wrong evidence. 4. We have the wrong universe. And then, he expands on those ideas in which we atheists could all agree, yet it's so difficult to explain when you are in a face to face interaction with a person who believes. So thanks for the help, @AUnum.
Just posted this in another area, but it is very applicable here. It is something my wife found this morning, and I thought it was pretty cool.
We have all heard, "If there is no God, what is the purpose of life?"
Well, seems that is about the same as asking, "If there is no master, whose slave will I be?"
Nice. Those are Dan Barker's words. His wife, Annie Laurie Gaylor, and he are very interesting people. I know it's a bit off topic, but this reminds me they met in a 1984 Oprah show in which they both, and Annie's mom, defended Atheism very bravely. It's on Youtube. Totally worth it.

I actually watched that youTube clip quite recently, it really is very good. Well worth watching. The sneering condescension of the audience was quite nauseating. The way they rationally made their case with quiet dignity was impressive to watch.

lol.... That is the exact meme she showed me this morning. Nice. Looks like I'm gonna have to watch that Oprah video now. Sounds interesting.
